Richard Thompson - Tear Stained Letter - Toronto 91

RT performing 'Tear Stained Letter' in Toronto back in 1991 with Shawn Colvin as a member of the band. The audio suffers from a hum but it's watchable in my opinion..

I was at this show, at the Spectrum on Danforth Ave. Colvin had just released Steady On and RT was touring Rumour and Sigh. Pretty great night.

I was at a gig where Richard opened up for Bonnie Raitt some years ago and somebody adjusted the lights in the back of the hall with a dimmer, which set off an immediate loud buzz through the PA system. Richard said "don't do that ----- either put the rheostat [as he called it] all the way up or all the way down, but not in the middle". He then observed that "America is a wonderful country, very technologically advanced, but you still haven't figured out how to Earth ground a sound system properly." There's a concert video on KZbin of David Lindley and El RayoX playing somewhere in Europe, Germany I think, where the PA buzzes loudly throughout, and at one point Lindley says to the audience "we'd like to thank the unseen member of the band now". The audience yells "who's that?" and Lindley replies, "the buzz in the speakers"!

Ever think you'd hear a cajun air compressor and a sax trading eights? And his solos remind me of a guy running full-tilt-boogie down a tightrope blindfolded.

I agree with the comment that every version of TSL is different. This is a good one, but my favourite is the one from the Old Grey Whistle Test, with Simon and Peggy singing backing.
