In Richard Wagner's song cycle, the "Wesendonck-Lieder", written in 1858 in Swiss exile to poems by his patroness Mathilde Wesendonck, the pre- and post-echoes of his great operas are unmistakable: "Der Engel" recalls the dreamy, floating moods of LOHENGRIN, while "Träume" seems to anticipate the love-night mood of the second TRISTAN movement.
Listen to Irene Roberts, Monia Rizkallah, André Robles Field, Przemyslaw Pujanek, Maria Pstrokonska-Mödig and Sir Donald Runnicles.
