Nils, Ringo, and the boys tore this up and in my not so humble opinion have made this the definitive version of this song. The people in the front row should have been up and dancing and not in their seats. Nils rocked this. Wow!

When will this man get the recognition he deserves? Fabulous.

+Mark Swain 30 years is my guess. I told the story that Mark Knopfler invited Nils as a guest on a big british stage. For the vast majority he was in a dark corner but finally Mark called him up.He got 15 seconds Mark. He flew over there and sure Mark Is great but Nils has a bunch of tricks to work his tones. I have learned what that means- that the host is scared and Nils is the Pinch hitter who hits 333 with power. Clapton also was invited on as he got 20 seconds. These are two gentlemen MK that are not going to embarrasses you.we all have to realize that the best of the best are staring at mortality. Ringo believed, Springsteen stole him and is jealous imo . It may be best that while MK is playing that Nils walks over and stays there and battles to the end. Look at Randy California bringing on 6 or so of the best to play watchtower. There is no one that I hear that can take on Gary Moore rip due to his massive hands and sense of tone, MK I was in HS when I heard Sultans and I knew music had changed. It's not who is "best" it's the different styles. Give Doug Gordon a try on Tangierband. Nils I saw you in Georgetown 1974 -it was enough .

Mark Swain For real. I have listened to this video countless times. People have walked into the room and asked, “who is that on guitar.” That’s Nils. Respect the man!

I think Ringo must have encouraged him to shine literally at those shows. I know when I saw them in Vancouver Nils got a massive standing ovation and I don't think too many people knew what he was capable of.

Seinerzeit life im Rockpalast gesehen, in einen der Nächte, als ich Teilnehmer der Meisterschule in 1979 war, eigentlich nachts in Ruhe lernen wollte, unvergesslich 🍀😍✌️

Give a listen to Shine Silently --Nils Lofgren and Friends. All three of his brothers are singing with him, along with four or five others. It's here somewhere!

I am so happy finding this on youtube! I've wanted this concert for so long, but couldn't find it on DVD, and since I'm from Norway I wasn't sure if the VHS could play on our VHS players. So happy! It's like a dream come true! haha. Nils is truely a fantastic artist, but sadly underrated.

This is one of the best live versions of this song that I've heard, even including the one he did with The Boss & Little Steven and The Max Weinberg Seven (which was pretty damn fine).

Great to hear Nils sing and his harmonic guitar tone. Very cool. But I couldn't help but notice and ask why is the drum tempo so fast on this? The album version...the one that has No Mercy on it was so perfect. great F..ing guitar solo after 4:30. Wow. He's got his own expressive style and that's what makes guitarists great for me. Nils had some masters on late night TV but I could never find them. Late 70's early 80's. Nevertheless, thanks for the post.

I haven't heard anything from him (my own fault) in years then I find all of these fantastic tracks of nils. I mainly remember the hit "I came to dance"...I wore out the vinyl version, and the cassette died. Now on my phone since my audio system was lost in a fire. He's Canadian, do u.s. fans have know he exists ???

A few slips, but an otherwise beautiful, inspired version. Love that fantastic, recognizable guitar-tone. Funny how Ringo Starr's fame as ex Beatle is so big that the song and main performer are mentioned as secondary information.
