Ringo just understands how to keep this music alive. He always connected wit the fans with the least pretension and knows how to bring all of this music back with a kind of fresh wonder, I don't know how to put it. All the baggage is somehow left behind. Ringo is a magician and a genius at this. I've never liked Frampton as much as on these tracks.

Watching this footage just reminds me of why Gary Brooker was my absolute idol when I was a kid. Every time I saw Procol Harum in concert, I barely took my eyes off him. I loved BJ and Trower but nothing beat watching Brooker singing at the piano, he was amazing. Shine on Brightly my friend, say hello to BJ. Thanks for the music, the beautiful, beautiful music that came only from Procol Harum.

He was mine, too! I'm a classically trained piano player and Bach lover. I just adored how Gary took the baroque element and brought it right into the 20th century. What a band ! And the lyrics! Gary Brooker, Stevie Winwood, Leon Russell, Joe Cocker- I loved them all.

Wow! I'd never seen this before. Gary Brooker's voice has everything. The quality of his vocal tone is absolutely astounding on this performance. My favorite song of his is "No More Fear of Flying". That's actually a blues song produced by George Martin with lots of beautifully loose, push-pull rhythm, syncopation, anticipation, and a righteous chorus. Check it out!

Jack Bruce on bass...Simon Kirke on drums...Peter Frampton playing Procol Harum lead guitar? Damn Frampton's solo on this is excellent. Still think the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra version is the most epic version but Frampton's excellent & commendable as a Procol lead guitarist. Brooker is always superb.This entire performance is blistering and Ringo Starr -- he puts together some of the finest fiery & memorable rock shows with his AllStarrBand.

This is one song where playing the solo - or every other run - is coveted by guitarists... especially if they can find a 7" radius and a bow and finish the song with roars from a bowed electric.

@billburkhead97372 жыл бұрын
I liked the Denmark version also, but to my ear, the orchestra started at a tad too fast of a tempo, then Brooker and the drummer got it slowed down to a better tempo (similar to this version) like Brooker set from the start

One thing I usually notice with older bands doing their hits is that the rhythm section lacks a bit of energy. Not a problem with this well-constructed band. Drummer wasn't BJ, but still into it. Nice to see Gary move over to the B3, at the end there in the absence of Matthew Fisher. After watching this, I'd actually like to catch the Ringo band when they start touring again. But unfortunately, no Gary. The grim reaper comes for us all.
