It's salf hoursunningly beautiful. Amazing how the positive and negative charges never seem to be spent, it keeps on going. We just had one like this yesterday in Ireland. The thunder was constant without interruption for one and a hours. Not to mention the torrents of rain. I love to watch it, ...but... "over there!"

The storm was too far away for Richard to hear the thunder; what he got treated to was a side view of the storm as it moved, the lightning flashing within. The Anvil usually points the direction the storm is going, a bit like a finger pointing the way. Lightning that is too distant to be heard is called 'heat lightning' due to it being associated with warm weather.

I was within a few miles of this storm, just 5 miles north of Hemel Hempstead and it was truly spectacular. I recorded it in 4K and hope to post it soon. Thunder was virtually continuous for a good part of an hour albeit not that loud and although the storms tops passed overhead there was no rain. It was centred over Milton Keynes. I was under that lot in Milton Keynes. Have footage from bring up Campbell Park near the CentreMK. It lasted for 3 hours, constant lightning and thunder with torrential rain a large hail. Stood out in it all at the Pinnacle, then headed to MC Donalds in the Xscape around 10:30 pm soak to my skin with water sloshing out of my shoes as I walked. XD

Wow! Amazing storms you are experiencing there. I don't think I've ever seen such an electrical storm without thunder. Sitting here watching your video full screen reminded me of my Greenpoint, Brooklyn apartment which I left 5 years ago. It was in LaGuardia's flight path, and the old Polish neighborhood had been transformed into a hipster haven. The inconsideration of my neighbors used to irritate me much. Although I miss the diversity of culture and people, I'm happy to now be in the country. I still get to the city every 6 weeks or so. :)

Connor Clark Due to the storm having a high cloud base, this can make it visible over longer distances. What a great storm though. I live on the Lincolnshire fens, this is where the storms come to die, leaving only cirrus cloud. Due to the cold North sea being not too far, and the land being so flat. There is nothing to stop the cool easterly winds killing off thunderstorm development.

That has to be geo engineered. I mean have you ever seen lightening with a perspective like this? Oh the things we don’t know....Last nights storm with out hardly any thunder was also a wonder. Thank you for posting this.

Yes this lighting show was much better than the music party. Looks like a severe thunderstorm we get in the midwest of the USA during tornado season. Great video. Terrible music they should have been playing the Beatles.

Nice vid. I'm collecting (noting rather than stealing) footage of this event (which was countrywide) as I did a study on it. It wasn't climate change, but rather just top-notch perfect conditions for a severe storm environment, which are rarely seen in any one location in the UK. The storm was in a back-building environment which meant its apparent movement is backwards to the flow of the wind (hence why it looked like it was coming from the north in a southeasterly flow). There were a few funnel clouds/tornado reports from this particular cell. You captured a rare show!

Safe to say, these types of storms are pretty peculiar for London. The lovely anvil shape and super cell formation is something typical for May-June in places like Oklahoma, where there are Tornados. I’m assuming that storm produced a lot of hail and rain? I got lightning and a bit of rain, but I never saw the beautiful cloud formation depicted in this video.

Glad you got this one Richard. I saw it from Guildford, very active for UK. Like you, I couldn't hear a thing. If you go here: en.blitzortung/historical_maps.php?map=12 and select 27/05/2018 21:00 you'll see it was quite large and centred over south Bucks. Didn't move much and petered out as it got properly dark.

Thanks for watching 😀. Yes I noticed that it was north of me. And I also saw it get noticeably weaker as it got dark. Thanks very much for confirming that. 😀
