I wasn't expecting to see the Southern Lights but a member of our local hackerspace posted a picture and I went out and could see a tinge of red in the sky... took some snaps with my phone then went and grabbed the DSLR and showed the children. Very impressive stuff. The trick of not looking directly at the object/even I believe is called averted vision, very common in astronomy, I think it's to do with how the eye gathers light and being "off center" manages to let more in... it's been a while since I read about it so I'm probably wrong.

Had to google Hanwell, which I found is “one of London’s last truly undiscovered gems”. With lots of green space, low crime rate, good community spirit , excellent transport links - it sounds like a great place to live 😊 How did you end up there?

I love watching the Lightning Map......mesmerising. I missed the aurora.....I had no idea that it was possibly going to be visible here. Drat, gutted! I'll watch your footage instead. Yay for progress on the house.....I can't wait to see it all shiny and new again. 😊 Ugh....I LOATHE CB.....but it seems the way to make money from YT! Argh....red ants......evil! There was a Maple Festival here last weekend which celebrates the running of the sap from the maple tree and all the treats that are made from the harvest. Will like with others. Borealis is aurora from the North pole, Australis is aurora from the south pole. I totally had to Googlay ALL of those words... and apparently I can't spell "is" either. I am so tired also, it is a side effect from the solar storms. Very common, along with dizziness, headaches and tinnitus. The stronger the storm, the stronger the side effects if they impact your side of the earth.
