Campbell's stuff has always been great, and he keeps getting better. The Danger Girl Sketchbook, is definitely worth getting.

I agree. He has actually improved. i was looking at some stuff from around 2015 this morning and and he's really progressed. Hope he has a few more comic stories in him!

Realizing you worked on this and with Joe on battle chasers has been so eye opening. Your talent was instrumental in so many of my favorite comic books in history. I'm now understanding why more and more I can appreciate the manga that you like as well. Thank you for this Richard.

Jeff probably used the *Edit > Transform > Warp* function in Photoshop with bezier handles for control. 👍

I was a Drawing Board dot Org kid. Surprisingly a lot of the main people who posted there regularly have all gone on to successful art careers in TV animation and comics.

I wish J Scott Campbell's work wasn't reduce to just covers, but to full length book titles.

I agree. He's great at telling stories!

He did a short story in Spawn #300, if you're interested. It has a couple of other artists I enjoy, like Capullo, that's why I got it in the first place, I stopped buying the title years ago.

I hear what you are saying about how early influences stick with you. Great vid, btw ! I Love JSC and your inks are incredible, friend.. I remember all of these Danger girl comics!

I think part of it too was Jeff's work was actually quite a bit different than all the other image artists. It just seemed fun and not overworked once he created his look. Like a breath of fresh! air

23:00 that's a Scott Williams inked page, that was always one of my favorite pages and was surprised when I found out recently that it wasn't Alex Garner on the inks but Scott Williams, in print it's so sharp and yet so dynamic.

On my phone. I'll circle back to it on my computer. Thanks. The colors definitely fluctuated on that book which to me made some pages look better. So that was interesting to see.

Sad you won't be doing reviews for now Richard, but it's understandable. Can't wait for Blaster Kid.
@RichardFriendartist3 жыл бұрын
Sad? How so. There's lot of comic review videos! I'd rather draw comics than talk about other peoples. !
@pawel7853 жыл бұрын
@@RichardFriendartist I meant reviews and lessons for the patreons, our penciled pages, inks etc. And sad, because your knowledge helps us :) And of course, drawing comics is better than talking. Also, do you have any date in mind for when are you planning to get Blaster Kid done?

You mentioned Shane Glines... You gotta cover some animation guys like him and Bruce Timm.

I'd be down for that! Thanks!

I Knew this one was coming since he did the interview with Lee Bermejo. Covering the WS talents. Theirs no shortage of them.

I said in the video. Campbell posted that nice cover with Wips and that was the reason. Not that it matters but I have no plan on doing any sort of wildstorm reunion series of video. I almost did Capullo Spawn but had this already recorded. So it saved ne recording a video today !

I was very disappointed with the last issue Danger Girl #7, Alex Garner left the book and other inkers filled in, it was so horrible looking that I never bought anything from J Scott Campbell since, just look at the faces from the first page, they look like discount JSC, that's how bad the inker made the art look. I'm not a fan of JSC current work either because I find his marker inks to be subpar, last work I enjoyed were those Spider Man covers he did with Tim Townsend on the inks, just brilliant work all around. Oh and those recent Gen13 pages with Scott William inks from not so long ago. Danger Girl 1-6, specially the last issues 5 and 6 are unreal in terms of draftsmanship.
@farben_3 жыл бұрын
26:43 that was one of the few good pages from the last issue, you did good there Rich, the level of detail is impressive and it isn't made up detail like Jim Lee does with the hatching.
@RichardFriendartist3 жыл бұрын
@@farben_ thanks. It was a fun job but I vaguely remember it being a bit chaotic and a little "tense" at times. :)
@farben_3 жыл бұрын
@@RichardFriendartist That page at 32:48 it printed very badly, if you pick the comic you can see that the lines are very pixelated ruining your work! Similar thing happened to issue 6 of Wildcats v2
@RichardFriendartist3 жыл бұрын
@@farben_ I was going to talk about that but texting on my phone is laggy. So back then Wildstorm would hire interns and throw them on the scanner with a pre set of actions to "level" all line art like a throw away busy work job. I didn't know this and saw the printing and would constantly ask why it looked like shit. They'd never directly answer what the issue was and would blame it on "bitmap" files looking different. Finally one day I watched them do it and I was like..."what the hell" you can't assume every page would be leveled an adjusted with some automated settings. Imagine leveling a Travis page and then doing a John Paul Leon page...or a Tommy Lee Edwards page ALL with the same settings. I started scanning my OWN work and formatting it for color when I inked Whilce on Wetworks about a year or so later and never let them scan my art again. Issue 1 and 2 of Wild Cats with Travis I think suffered from bad scans and/or poorly processed raw files also. Really a shame but it wasn't my job to monitor and I wasn't aware of what was going./
@RichardFriendartist3 жыл бұрын
@@farben_ also it is highly likely that Scott Williams had someone else scanning his art...I know for years Alex Sinclair did actually scan a lot of his ink work. so, Scott's work might have been scanned at his house or by Sinclair at his home...they live very close to each other. Alex for sure used to scan Jim's work from Scott when he finished his inks. I know that for a fact/
