Some of the most fun fishing to be had. As much as I like catching big blue cats and bass, there's just something about seeing that float go down and reeling in a nice bluegill that makes me feel like a kid again.

I had a tiny, little Daiwa ultralight rig I called the Fairy Wand. Little, light thing that bluegill and shellcracker used to give me fits on. People who have never experienced a big bluegill on a rig like that just will never understand what a fight it is for sure.

I've been with you for years now Richard Gene. The channel hasn't built up because of anything we do. It has grown because of you and momma Sue. They're genuine, real people doing exactly what they love to do, all with big hearts, lots of laughs, and an uncqnny ability to show people how to go out and do the same thing in a way that anyone can understand. It's well deserved, and I can't wait to see it grow even bigger!

We are itching to get out for the walleye season here in Michigan but it was nice out so we took the boat out and had a blast. Now that hes getting older he has the fever for big fish but it was fun to get back to basics like when he was little. Nothing better in the world than fishing with your son. In my country we called that fish Cow-head Patwa. As poor country kids, we used a 3-foot 'rod' cut from nearby bush and stripped of it leaves, along with 5 or 6 feet of string we used for flying kites. Our floater was a piece of bottle cork with a slit cut into it. If we didn't dig earthworms, we'd bring a few grains of boiled rice, sticking a single grain onto the hook at a time. Man, we'd pull up them patwas every few minutes and string them on a twig. Easy to catch! Thanks for the video. Great memories of my childhood exploits.

Richard, a year or two ago I went bank fishing on a rainy day, and there was a guy using your method to catch panfish in the river. It was raining pretty good, so we were the only ones out on the walkway. I heard a big commotion from down there where he was at and just thought it was stripe or skipjack hitting the shad on top. A few minutes later, he came up and said can you help me figure out what this fish is? I looked in his cooler and he had a 6 lb Smallmouth! He caught that meanmouth on an ultralight with a piece of nightcrawler. I was just as excited as he was. He learned that technique watching your channel. You're making a big impact on the fishing community! Thank you and God bless.

We also fished coal mine strip pits and farm ponds like the one in this video. Just red worms and a ultra light tackle. Daddy loved to fish with a fly rod also. He would put crickets on a small hook on my fly rod like it was a cane pole. I was maybe 6 yrs old then. Keep up the good work you reach many with your message of good will.

Thanks for all you do and for helping many of us to remember how we did things in the country as kids. On the wasp nest deal, to add to fishing with them, we used to wrap them lightly in a newspaper and burn the paper . That little bit of heat made the larvae a bit tougher for a fish to tear off from your hook. Putting them in the oven worked too but Mama frowned on that one.

When you get them in close if they ever get turned 180 degrees from you and make a run with a full head of steam it’s game over… 😂 That’s just as much fun to me as bass fishing. You just gotta match your tackle to the species you’re targeting… If you use a bass rod for bluegill it’s kinda like using deep sea gear for bass fishing… Their just isn’t much fun in that for me… I like to give them a fighting chance.
