John Parrish, I’m well aware of the Raylar 8.1 parts, their stuff is very expensive, for what it would cost you to buy a junkyard 8.1, and add the Raylar stuff to it, then buy an ignition box to control the coils, you’d have way more money in it than it’s worth. There’s a reason 8.1 swaps aren’t popular.
@shitbox74134 жыл бұрын
Vertical Pedal Garage, 8.1’s don’t have enough piston to valve clearance or guide clearance to accommodate much more lift than the stock cam has, modifications would have to be made for high lift camshafts that would be needed to take advantage of extensive port work.

Great channel. As far as the trending lean I'd put on a larger volume hat with the hat facing straight forward or rear, 0.024' HSABs, again use the vent tube extensions just inside the throat to the carb hat. yes use the BAPV WITH 0.080" PVCR holes, open (drill) the channels feeding the boosters as large as possible without compromising the booster. Since the metering blocks have replaceable bleeds inthe main wells, be sure the 2nd from the bottom is plugged and the bottom one is around .020". let me know how it works out.

After it dropped a valve, I swapped it to a L88 out of a corvette. I currently have a LS3 396 in my 71 Camaro that has be warmed over quite a bit. This topic peaked my interest. IMHO, I believe it's the pressure within the cylinder that will determine the knock threshold of any given fuel. How that pressure is created, high CR, high CR & low boost, or low CR & high boost should not matter as long as the tuning is optimised for the combination. Theories are great, however the BS stops on the dyno/testing. Please Richard make this happen. Thank you

Richard, can you explain how dynamic compression works when adding boost? As you know in a NA application, cams are designed to work with a certain compression ratio. But it seems like this gets thrown out the window when you add boost to the equation. How does this influence cam choice?

@hobbesnmina20014 жыл бұрын
Richard been meaning to suggest a dyno test based on equalizing power of different cubic inch size motors via supercharger boost. It would only be valid supercharger since they are driven by a pulley ratio. A few years ago I made an Excel sheet using supercharger volumes and ratios. One can enter the bore and stroke and see how much boost the blower will make and also pounds of force via boost per square inch. I did it to see the differences between engine combinations in nostalgia classes were a 6-71 blower is allowed. The feedback is super interesting but it would be an awesome addition with known dyno results! If you are interested I could send you a copy of the spreadsheet. I’m always looking at the different boost results in your dyno runs when you test different blowers and a class with a single blower allowed and a max drive ratio the blower is an equalizer. The bigger engine will make less boost and the smaller engine will have more boost. 454 vs 350 example. Then there’s bore vs stroke with a blower as the shorter stroke larger bore will have more lbs of force vs the torque of a longer stroke smaller bore combination. Thanks and take care Carlos

The 8100 & LS share cathedral style intake ports. The 8100 share the same coil near cylinder as the LS The 8100 share the same crank reluctor wheel triggered crank sensor style as the LS Where then 8100 departs from the BBC is the 8100 has a 10.2 deck height (same as a old school tall deck bbc truck block). that is .400 taller then a standard 7.4 The 8100 also shares the same cylinder bore size with the 7.4 but has a longer stroke crankshaft (stroked out to 496 cid). So yes the 8100 is similar to the LS and has attributes of the old school 7.4 but is clearly a tall deck monster 496 waiting to be abused
