Calloway Twin Turbo L98 Corvettes were pretty amazing cars. Anybody who has ever worked on a C4 Corvette knows packaging an intercooled twin turbo setup under the hood was an elegant piece of engineering. The horse power was not huge by today’s standards (kind of limited by the TPI manifold) but they had a huge and flat torque curve. The only engine that looks better than a TPI L98 is a twin turbo TPI L98 with those massive intercoolers on either side of the intake plenum.

I have a 600+ hp old school 383 and it drives anywhere and stays cool and runs great. 11.1 compression and 605 lift 310 duration. You just have to run a good ignition system

In N/A form the old school small block will out power an LS. There is a lot of dyno proof of that by several shops.

Hi Richard. Looking to build a turbo motor with 1000hp to the wheels. I'm open to build SBC, BBC or LS and FI or blow thru. I know the blow thru would be the cheapest route. What engine would you build for reliability? Will be driven some on the street but mainly for the track. Thanks

LS would be the lightest

Supposedly in 1959 or 1960 was the first aluminum heads on the Chevy small block but like you said they didn’t last long must have had issues

I had a 84 c4 in highschool. 2007-09 with a Jasper crate I believe gen2 sbc... with a full exhaust and turbo 350. That set up alone on coopers from back then, turn the tires like nothing. I couldn't imagine the tq in a chassis that light from the calloway setup

I’ve seen more than one sbc with over 200,000 miles on them. Like anything it depends on how they are taken care of

I’m a dirt racer and 95% of all dirt cars are still old school sbc because they make more power. If the LS was better in N/A form believe me sprint cars would be running them

You may need to upgrade the computer to do the videos and stream at the same time. I’ve seen the tuners complain about having to upgrade their computers as of late to do the remote tuning and do the fancy streaming. I know I just had to upgrade cuz the windows gave up on 10 so my 2000$ laptop I’ve used for tuning for the last 6years is useless to me now. Only spent 600$ this time

Chevy did not change to the LS because of more power they did it because of cost to build

When you start up a junkyard engine that you just rebuilt, what do you do with it before you rev it on the dyno?
@richardholdener1727
@richardholdener1727 2 сағат бұрын
I don't rebuild junkyard motors-I usually just run them. For a rebuilt motor, we subject them to a break in cycle

@richardholdener1727 would that be the same for jy engines that you upgrade H/C/I on?

1996-2002 L-31 Vortec is one of the most reliable engines. Anyone that argues that fact.......🤔 Responds to real street performance levels...... fact's, just fact's, been around for a minute, 60 years old, A tech for half a life, seen them go 500k numerous times...... just saying....

I have a small block 400 I put a flat tapit cam in an I'm gonna have to break it in but it hasn't been started in 2 years. Is it gonna be ok starting it an taking it right to 3,000 rpm for 20 minutes ?
@RonAbbitt
@RonAbbitt 7 сағат бұрын
It will most likely go flat. All flat tappet cam and lifters made after 2019 are junk no matter what brand
@offdutypopo
@offdutypopo 5 сағат бұрын
Not true, the 2 engine I've built in the last 3 years used flat tappets, one a comp cams xe274h and one a cheap ass $108 jegs cam and tappet set, both never went flat to this day. Just add zinc addative to the oil.

Sorry, missed the live feed. I feel like you have the information available and I haven’t done enough diving into all of your great content so I might be asking stuff that may already be answered. Is there a correlation between turbo hot side diameter and power output? Is there pros/cons to the sizing? I did 2.5” logs to 2” cross overs to a dual scroll t4 76mm turbo and I’m wondering if I’m choking my set up. Turbo spools fine it seems. For a pro charger set up, I would like to see an intercooler comparison on a gen 2 LT1. The Procharger intercooler kits seem a bit ridiculous, a lot of plumbing, and expensive. There is a single intercooler, a dual intercooler version, etc. I’m considering no intercooler or fab an air to water, but I think the air to water is over kill in reality. Lt1 is notorious for valve float, I want to see a comparison on speedmaster rockers shaft mounted/stud mounted/traditional pivot cup design, decent springs, rpm range stability on stock heads. Tick offers some pretty aggressive cams in comparison to the summit pro series, I would love to see some side by side comparisons on the lunatick cam, summits hotcam plus, and other max effort cams on the lt1. Tick tries to sell linked lifters with their cam packages, at what rpm do you think a linked lifter needs to be used to be stable/reliable? Is cast crank walk caused by power or rpm? Grubworm talked about how the thrust bearing in the rear journal on the LT1 being more ideal for drag racing compared to LS thrust bearing being in the middle. The lt1 crank is internal/external balanced, how or would a fully internal balanced crankshaft play with the rear main thrust bearing? Is it best to stay with the internal/external crankshaft design because of the rear main thrust bearing?? Thanks Richard! You da man!

@richardholdener1727 ls is total trash in factory form did cam and lifters all day everyday on them at the chevy dealer. People paying 600 or 800 a month on their vehicle while driving a sonic loaner car to have thier trash ls and lt engines fixed. Absolutely terrible engines.
