I grew up with my dad with the men in my family doing all things automotive, salvage, paint & body & mechanical. We built cars from the insurance pool and 70% of them were 1980's up Dodge, Chrysler & Plymouth vehicles. Mostly shadows, Sundance, sunfires, dynasty's, spirits, omni's, Daytona, shelby's, LeBaron's, reliants, , newyorker's, caravans, Lancers, conquests, acclaim's, horizons, aries, lasers, colts ect.... they were popular in the late 80's and 90's then became cheap cars that had tons of parts in almost every salvage and alleyway in the US. We made our living thanks to these forgotten icons. So many that we built had low low miles and aside from the horrible paint fading and flaking on some years the interiors were simple and often immaculate. I drove a 2D shadow up until 2010 & the only thing I did was matinence and a timing belt. The Non interference Engines were tough & would run with next to no oil pressure. When the oil light started to flicker on a hot day then you knew you had a good 100,000mi left in her lol. Head gaskets were comin among young drivers but we just always stuck a 2.5 in place of the 2.2's. I wish I had a few of them back now.. never thought they would be so popular. We used to by them for parts all day long for $50. Never again tho. God Bless Friends!!!

The "wheelie bars" on a FWD racer are to preload the front tires. I knew that for years before I heard one of the guys using them admit it. The longer your effective wheelbase, the less weight is taken by the rear tires and the more is taken by the front tires. With a theoretically infinitely long rear wheelie bar, ALL weight would be on the front tires.

Looking pretty Awesome Richard! I had those same rims on one of my many Dodge Daytona Turbo Z's and that paint color looks almost identical to the blue they used on the Chrysler Shelby Chargers of the time period. My brother had the Chrysler Shelby Charger 2.2L turbo in blue and silver. I remember getting my doors blown off by a coworker in one of these Horizon turbo cars! We had the same exact drive trains but given Daytona was a 2 door but a slightly larger vehicle all the way around, there's definitely a huge difference in weight? Being that Horizon was able to make it feel like I was standing still! My last Daytona was a 92 with a built and heavily modified 2.5L, which was never turbocharged from the factory. Being I had this almost mint condition 92 with blown engine, decided to take the original 2.5L and built that up to be a turbo engine. Lets just say it was a bit of a difference between the 2.2 and 2.5+ with being punched out .030" with a little porting of the aluminum head that was fitted with a large aftermarket cam, forged and coated pistons among tons of other modifications. With the 2.2L turbo setup on the modified 2.5+L long block it made a huge impact on the infamous Dodge torque steering they were renowned for! Being the year I had for this project was a 92' Dodge had made some slight improvements to the biggest issue they had with these, the torque steer. They were able to lenghen one short drive shaft to make them pretty much equal lengths. But it by no means fully corrected the problems with them having such crazy torque steering issues! Mine would be doing everything in its power to try ripping the wheel out of your hands! Especially being a 5 speed manual transmission, you were doing everything in your power to keep the car on the road under full boost hard accelerations! And it was no lie a bit sketchy at times especially on uneven roads or wet conditions. Otherwise they were fun times playing around with these better looking K-cars and their engines! Lol. I feel bad if someone ever found my old 92 Daytona? 😂😂😂 if you have found mine, you'll definitely know it! The engines a 2.5L but it is definitely doesn't appear to be one. Everything on the outside of the engine says its a 2.2L Turbo. But it gets even worse! Because we used a different year head and lower end getting the timing belt to work with all these different parts was a big problem! The older crankshaft used a square tooth timing belt pulley. The head used a round tooth pulley. So yeah I needed to scour junkyards for a few pulley's off a few different engines that fit the mishmash of parts on this 2.5L I threw together. Needless to say, if you need a new timing belt for this engine??? SMFH good luck with that. Unless you have the old one? We had to pull one off the shelf, which didn't go to any sort of Dodge or Chrysler product. So yeah everything was custom when it came to the timing belt setup, but it worked flawlessly.

Hey Richard, I'm thinking about adding a turbo to the stock engine on my 1989 Ram50 (same truck as a Mitsubishi Mighty-max) with the Mitsubishi 2.6 (G54B) engine. I'm leaning towards staying carbureted for simplicity and money reasons. Is there an easy-ish way to set up the stock Mikuni 2 barrel carb for blow through, or would it be easier to adapt a 350 cfm Holley 2 barrel to the stock intake and set it up for a blow-through situation. Also if I kept the boost in the single digits, do you think I could get away with just backing down the ignition timing on the distributor instead of figuring a way to pull back the timing under boost? Thanks in advance for any advice you may have for me. Also, any recommendations on the turbo itself that'd work good on this situation would be great as well.

Enjoyed the specialty Mopar show! Have been thinking about Rampage's lately. Maybe I'll go lie down till that thought passes.--- I got to drive a new turbo Daytona on a long distance vacation years (and years!) ago. Very impressive car, 30 mpg, great handling, comfortable, attractive design. Quite a change for Chrysler at the time. Only problem my friend had with the car was the 5 speed was under engineered and needed rebuilding when it was traded off. Very un-Mopar like for their manual transmissions.--- More small car shows and junk--ooops-- salvage yards if you have the time!!! I have learned much-Thanks!!
