I'm going to invest in a burette/bain marie. I've been using a similar stove to heat the wax in a container, but a turkey baster to apply wax to frames. The right tool for the job is a no-brainer though, particularly when dealing in large volumes of frames - hundreds at a time here now. Plus, no inquisition from an irate long-haired chum about where yet another turkey baster has gone. 😎 Hoping for a good main flow here, and ready as I can be I think. 'Bonne Chance' to all !

Solar heating for you water is a great idea :) I plan to make some wind turbines for power (the blades and alternators are surprisingly easy to build, magnets, copper wire and an epoxy) whenever I get to build a house (one can dream heheh) Mini Plus hives seem like they need you to be REALLY paying attention to them. I like mating nucs that take standard Langstroth frames, saves a bit of storage space, and jut can just put the frames in a regular hive.

Hi, thats the great thing about the mini-Plus Nucs, their actually not too bad , their a good compromise between the tiny Apidaea nucs and a normal sized nuc, so you dont need a lot of bees to get them going but you also dont have to be in them every couple of days.

Excellent video. Lots going on. Do you reuse the frames of the miniplus or cut the comb out like with an apidea. Am trying out something this year on a small scale. Using a normal hive as a queen mating hive, by putting in a divider board and just three empty frames. My hives are smaller than the dadant. Home made and more like big suppers. Then as with the apidea, put in a big cup of bees, lock them up and feed. Then two days later add a queencell. Once they mate and laying at the end of the chestnut, they get a box full of bees on top from other hives. Time will tell.

Hi, yes we can re use most of the mini plus frames but try to melt down the older ones and keep a good rotation going.they can all go in to the wax melter if necessary. good luck this summer!

I'm guessing when you split those down you aren't going to add a queen but let the bees create one from eggs in the brood ?

Great video thanks, question from a fairly new beekeeper, how do you transition mini plus to a nuc , if you place mini plus on top of nuc do they naturally move into the bigger space , I thought bees naturally move up?

Hi Paul, you can either harvest the queen in the traditional way of put the Mini-Plus on top of another nuc, they grow down in to the nuc easily enough. they also move sideways lol

Dadant deep, shallow super, and mini plus. Wouldn't it just be more simple if you used only 2 frame sizes? In the other hand, I really liked that honest and direct little story about your son how he missed the transfer in the morning. As you work and speak to us in parallel just sound like a friend we know for ages.

Its Fairly simple, you can put the mini -plus on top of a Nuc and they grow down in to the nuc, and it would be very difficult to handle brood frames full of honey. the half sized are great! I do a few mini plus from time to time depending upon how many queens I have spare. It works well. Most people use half sized frames for honey if their full frames.
