You're doing everything I'm trying to do here on my mini-homestead, but on a much bigger scale...I'm raising 25 meat birds this year, planted 50+ trees last year (natives and fruit), and tons of berry shrubs as well. Just got a pair of kunekune girls to breed with our boars later this year. This year I'm focusing mostly on learning to grow vegetables better too. Love the videos for inspiration!

When I was a child, Dad would break the roots off but leave the stem in the kohlrabi when he peeled it; that way, I had a "handle" to hold onto my treat as I ate it.

Ragnar's answer really was spot on about planting trees...soil and water... Perhaps an adult might say land and sufficient rainfall... A spade is well down the priorities... the new trees are very exciting.

Regarding the size of the truck - Apparently the shipper is not responsible for using appropriate size vehicles for the roads they will be travelling on? That seems very odd, from a US perspective, where the shipping company is absolutely responsible for making sure they're complying with legal limits for the roads they're using.

I read in your first book that you stopped using the rice padis because it was difficult to grow without shade covers. Have you come up with a solution for that?

My name is Taniera and I am a acting project officer at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives. We are working on a Farming project and I want to seek your opinion and advice. So our design Unit have come up a poultry building design that is way too expensive. I want to ask if you can recommend any poultry design that is cheap but still give the best results in regards to quality..

Perhaps a stupid question, but have you tried starting the chicks with some compost? Dunno if that would help Kickstart the microbiome in the brooder to cut down on mortality? Just a thought after having heard you comment on that for a few years now.

I always add a bit of kombucha to the water of baby chicks. Idk how much it helps but I figure it couldn’t hurt.

Maybe adding some compost (for biology) to the bedding before the first batch will reduce mortality.

If the biology in the soil gets better after the first batch, and therefore the survival rate of the birds rises, is there a reason you don't dig down some (maybe composted) chicken manure from last year?
@regenerativeagriculture

Mortality is very low anyway, it just gets really low in subsequent batches.
