Richard and Teresa I love when you put out these videos when you do a manual transmission these are transmissions people just seem to forget about and yet they're a big part of keeping a truck running I wish more cars had manual transmissions put out more manual transmission videos these are the best ones I think you put out there .

Pretty much how other transmissions are/were like to get the cluster out . Just cut the cage off and she pops right out . That guy ran the balls off that trans . When you start bangin' gears, especially with a diesel you better be ready to start buying hard parts when things go poof . lol I used to start laughing when a customer would whine about how expensive a rebuild was going to cost, when they have size 19 shoes . lol @@dzntz1

I’ve built loads of gearboxes Richard. Nothing like the weight of the good old cast iron case for a work out. The smell of burnt, old gear oil,it stays with you. I would liked to have a go at that gearbox, my cup of tea. A very expensive rebuild considering all the damage. Absolutely great video!!!!

You commented on finding a lot more problems after performing a clean-up of a transmission. How about doing a follow up after disassembling a transmission that is showing bad wear like the Dodge NV 4500 telling and or showing what other problems were found. A re-assembly video would be great too. I subscribed to you after watching this video. Very professionally done video.

Richard, I’m almost in Amarillo TX and planned to stop by your shop. I flew from Maryland, and driving back. So, my wife was looking you up and your old business is closed up? The date is 14 March, 2024@ 3:45 pm. I’ve been watching your You Tube for over 2 years. I have a long drive back. I’ll be in Amarillo in about an hour. Is there anywhere I can see your shop? I’d hate to go all the way home and miss this chance. I’m the Army guy who reached out to you and spoke with you on the phone 2 years ago. Let me know. Kind Regards, Tom

I worked on one of these for a guy who was too cheap to go to a transmission shop. He heard that there was a large nut holding (Its been quite a while ago) something in tight and if it backed off, things got ugly fast. I do remember it was four wheel drive and that nut was most likely about a inch and a quarter, more or less, It had some tangs on a locking washer that kept it from backing off. I did as he asked and of course it was not as tight as should be. At that point, I figure there is more damage on the inside but he said, "Just tighten the heck out of it" and so I did, then reassembled it. I will admit it did shift better and never gave him any problems after.

I have a video request... I wish you'd do a video each on generations of transmissions. For example, in the Mopar line do a single video on the 904,727 and all of their children to the 48re. Have them all blown apart and laid out on the floor. Point out similarities, evolutions and SPECIFICALLY interchangeable parts that can be used to improve upon a transmission (like interchangeable planetary gears that can be taken out of 1 transmission and put in another to add strength). Do 1 video each for mopar, gm, and ford. That would be some AWESOME tech!

Thank you for only showing us the fun part of transmission work, not the many hours of what comes next. Do you reference blow-apart diagrams when you put them back together? Like "does this beveled washer go on the shaft this way or that way?" Or you've just done so many of these you don't need them any more? My nightmare scenario is when a tranny that's been touched before was assembled incorrectly or with parts missing. I'm good at putting things back in the same order they came apart, but if something was installed backwards, in the wrong order or with a part missing... I'll never catch it!

New venture takes $20 a quart oil for junk results. Went through 4 3500s behind a 318 2wd. Granted the first 2 got ripped out by nitrous and probably by someone who has no business with a 4-5sp. You can't speed shift these. They weren't designed for that but, there are a lot of dummies in my home state. I never abused the last 2. Oh, $600 used if you can find a 2wd dakota.
