Church Stretton is a small town in Shropshire, England, 13 miles south of Shrewsbury and 15 miles north of Ludlow. The town was nicknamed Little Switzerland in the late-Victorian and Edwardian period because of its landscape and became a health resort. The local geology includes some of the oldest rocks in England and a notable fault is named after the town. Today, Church Stretton is a busy market town in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

QAnother Great Video Richard, I really like your walks outside, it's interesting to see a Thai Takeaway in such a small Town/(Almost Village) like Church Stretton. I like your Shropshire "mini serieswithin your Quest for England. I Love little towns like Chruch Stretton, they're so Quinitessentially "English , the village vicar saying hello being a wonderful example , I almost expected Miss Marple to pop out round the next corner replet in her Victorian dark coloured Long dress and sensible Nanny's shoes. please keep it up. I know this place well Richard, it's refreshing to hear someone who knows of its Roman history. I was born not too far away in Chester and used to come here quite often. 😊

I can't say I know too much of the Roman history but there was quite a bit happening in the area and it is worth looking up for sure. :)

The library used to be the St Lawrence infants school (ages 5-7). I went there. Happy memories! Until the age of 4 we used to live in a flat in the now demolished Stretton House on High Street opposite Cunnery Road and that view of the graveyard on the left is one of my earliest memories (from our kitchen window.) The cub/scout hut is opposite where you turned right down into the square at the end of the walk. As a cub, I well remember waiting at the corner there, sitting on the worn stone and iron rail stile (now replaced) entrance to the churchyard - and daring/scaring ourselves a bit by going into the churchyard in the dark! My father was an architect and I remember going with him up some scaffolding on the front of the Longmynd Hotel when about 6 or 7 - very scary! - when he was doing some work there. (Mark Eaton)

Yes! Yes! Yes!!!! Church Stretton - finally an ancestral hometown!🤗 Stretton & Church Stretton is what is listed for my Thynne (Botevile) line. Up until Sir John Thynne (my 11x g-grandfather) built Longleat Manor in Wiltshire (which I'm still hoping you go visit) - he & 12 more generations show birth & death records for Stretton & Church Stretton. Back to the year 1150. I saw at least 2 cemeteries & kept hoping if only you would step in & read a headstone or 2...

Lovely that Richard. Your still photos are really nice as well. How did you get the photo of that bird in the tree ? What camera are you using and what was the zoom.? Whenever I want to get photos of birds I'm not quick enough... but that looked like a good zoom lens has been used. David

David Keel Hi David. It is an oldish DSLR Fuji camera. Not brilliant really with a zoom lense but just good enough at 1080p. I do want a better one with more manual features but it will have to wait a while.
