Apologies for the dodgy sound on this video ...
Today I am in Shropshire at Nesscliffe exploring the pine covered sandstone hills, the iron age iron fort, Oliver's Point and Kynaston's Cave.
Nesscliffe is a few miles north of Shrewsbury just off the A5. There are several walking trails to follow.

Brilliant ! Nescliffe is one of many places I go past driving along the A5, that I always mean to visit but never have. Your show has got me starting to visit places I go past or through, taking the time to explore ! Next is Shrewsbury which I plan to visit soon (Pronounced like the mammal, shrew, not shrow !) So thank you for inspiring me to do something new ! ## I forgot, in 1976 before the A5 was widened and it went through the village, at the start of a cycling tour of Wales we stopped for lunch at the Nescliffe Hotel, so I have visited Nescliffe !

Thanks for your lovely comments. The debate on how to pronounce Shrewsbury goes on and on. I know an old family of Shrewsbury who 'know' how it is pronounced. It has nothing to do with the mammal or modern spelling - just as Leominister is not pronounced as it is spelt. If you look up the etymology of the town's name you will see where it has been corrupt from. Younger people get very annoyed with me for pronouncing it in the traditional way. Hey ho. Glad you enjoy the videos though. :)

What a lovely tour. If you go to Carlisle, you'll find a lot of red sandstone. Carlisle Castle is built of it!

2:20 I seem to remember a quite popular musical ensemble called "The Quarrymen" - I vaguely recall they adopted a new name, (which escapes me), and had a little success with it...presumably not the same people, (though they may've also got stoned after a hard day's night)... ;-) Thanks as ever Dave

Great video - I’m glad the weather was much kinder than the day before. I am pretty sure that there has been a conversion of some caves into a house in similar sandstone in Shropshire that was an episode of Grand Designs!

Oliver's Point - possibly be named after Oliver de Botesville????🤔 The Baron of Belvoir Castle awarded the Stretton area & Shopshire Hills to Oliver & his brother Geoffrey for taking such good care of his Castle when King John awarded them governorship over it during the Magna Carta. They only had it for 2 yrs, before it returned to the owner. But being that the Botevilles/Thynnes settlled in Stretton & Church Stretton at that time & generations after...makes ya think. If someone knows, please help a girl out!!! Btw...another great vid Richard. Shame about vandals! Little punks!!!😡

You covered a lot of ground in this video Richard, love the story of Humphrie Kyaston but think its unlikely that he kept his horse in his cave as horses are top heavy and arent able move theyre weight backwards so would fall down a flight of stairs other than wide/deep stairs with a gentle slope. Unless what I believe about horses and stairs is just an urban myth of course, but I its a widely held belief. I also used to be indecisive but now im not so sure ;)
