How to Build a Creative, Emotive solo
There are so many creative ways in which a guitarist can grab the listener’s attention at the beginning of a solo. Here Richie Faulkner looks at some effective ways to say, “Listen to me and check out what I have to say!”

Richie has a level of burn that is incredible. Every time I want inspiration I watch his EMGTV video playing his Les Paul doing a demo of the 57/66 pickups. Smokin.

He understands the art of the conversational solo and really knows how to utilize the pentatonic to this end. Excellent player, very well cultivated style and well honed technique. A true ace.

For me Blackmore is the best at creating soulful solos with the correct amount of space between the notes and building up to the climax. Having said that I just saw and heard Richie Faulkner for the first time at the 2021 Priest Chicago concert (in Rosemont) and he was fantastic, I was really impressed with his playing and stage presence. Our seats were right in front of him. Being a lead guitarist in a cover band, I learned a lot from Richie that night.

I’ve been a fan of bands, and I love Judas Priest but I’m a Richie Faulkner fan as well. Killer guitarist. Watched him at the Fox in Atlanta and was 10 feet away. Best concert I’ve ever been to and the closest to the stage. It’s worth spending the extra money to get a little closer because it’s a completely different experience. Richie Faulkner owns the place when he walks on stage but yet humble enough to let Rob Halford still be the front Man. Amazing concert, one of the best I’ve ever been too. Uriah Heep was also very good.

What a great lesson. Bruce Lee spoke extensively on this very concept. To be yourself. Discard what is useless, absorb what is useful, and imprint yourself on what's left. Removing the unnecessary to reveal what is there. Like Michelangelo. Great life lesson as well.

I really rate Richie Faulkner - I think he's at the top of his game in the industry. He draws on Schenker and Zakk but adds his own twist ...he's definitely put his 10,000 hours in and more playing little dives daaaarn saaarf (only Brits will get that), seems like a lovely chap too. Well done RF!

@@chrisdaviesguitar I haven't done any business, nor am I likely to, with Gibson (or it's affiliates) since they torpedoed Opcode Systems in 1999. It's more of a commentary on Mr. Faulkner's good taste.

ya know , I never held a flying V in my hands, but I like the way ( because of its unique design), Richie can "cradle" set it against his leg so it seems to be leveraged just right I know with out a strap it is always a difficult task to get my strat to lay comfortably in my lap when seated

Richie is a tremendous player and has the right mentality but this is actually his biggest weakness. I honestly don’t know how he keeps his original solos straight from song to song because they all sound the same. He has the right idea and unbelievable skill, but he needs to push the envelope on his own playing far more than he is right now.

True about the blues! If there’s no blues in your musical DNA you’ve got no soul. The only thing you can do is technique wizardry but then you’re just a technician.

Richie very similar to schenker, in regards to so much within 1-2 chord progressions. If just hearing, not viewing, one would think he's neck wide. But opposite.
