Foreigners listen to Dancehall to dance... They don't fully understand the words, so the drum patterns and melody is what attracts them... The current drum patterns aren't catchy and easy to dance to for them... And ppl aren't making melodic songs anymore... It's honestly that simple.... As a dj I see it all the time... They dance to afrobeats and the traditional Dancehall... If you switch to the current, the drum patterns throw them off and they don't feel it

@cruzanassassin2 жыл бұрын
@@Reemdonn that's wishful thinking... Ice Cube was a star instantly... He was already bigger than those before him... None of these artists are bigger than those before them... Hip hop was always growing in popularity as years went by.... Dancehall was too, but in the mid 2000s when they started experimenting with different drum patterns, it started to lose popularity... Now it's popularity is extremely low
@Reemdonn2 жыл бұрын
@@cruzanassassin I understand your perspective as well still, I just don't know how true it is, I feel like everybody keep on saying the reason dancehall is falling off is because of the change, so if dancehall was to go back to how it was in the "golden days" right now, do you think the artist would see a rise in popularity and be able to cross over?

Dancehall riddims used to have bass and often the juggling would carry the artists. Now the riddims are weak and it's just the voice. Until the bass comes back things are going to get worse. Alot of other genres have bass line now. Trap is for the kids. 😂

I respect this conversation and others like it that are talking about the current state of Dancehall music. But this is just another example of lip service and people airing out their disdain for the current state of the music. If people are so unhappy with the overall decline, why are they not doing something about it? Get up and be a part of the change the industry needs. We don't need one more person adding on to what's already been said. It almost feels like, for the people who already got what they needed out of Dancehall, have washed their hands and are done with it. I'm tired of the talking. We need more action.

People need to do a google search/ youtube of reggae in every african country, you will see how its embraced and interpeted in their cultural flow, from ethipoia, kenya, sudan,uganda, zimbabwe, south africa, etc. to west africa, and lets put things in context, afro beats is one genre of reggae interpretation. You have others as I stated on the continent. Jamaica has no control over that cultural interpretaion as it is with latin reggae, get use to it, what we need to do is embrace them and deal with it and compete with it, after all reggae is synonomous with Jamaica. Problem is todays youth is clueless and comfortable with crumbs trying to DJ over cheap rap beats, that doesnt sell anywhere but Jamaica and parts of the carribbean.
