Richies Will always be the spot I go to, Lost 70lbs 5 years ago and got in decent shape and been going ever since. Myrtle and Wyckoff was my spot but now that it's gone I've been going to The Stanwix joint for a few months, same atmosphere and I love it. Nothing around here is the same it's all mediocre commercial gyms, Coliseum gym is the only thing that comes close. Hope this one stays, I been to World Gym, Retro, Force fitness, Power Factory(RIP) and only coliseum and Power factory came even close to Richies atmosphere. Call it dirty, grimey, gritty whatever but you can't fake that realness in there. Always the same dudes, Rain, sleet or snow. Love this

Wow, Richies was my home away from home for many years! I was about 16/17 when I started going there! I’m glad you guys are still around and hopefully stay around! I’m still in the area and should be making my way there soon. I hope to see some familiar “old school” faces!!!

Richies on Atlantic Ave has been my home for 20 plus years now...if you remember "Danny" at the front desk yelling "pick up the weights" then you put time in & you was there when it was real...back then it wasnt about staying in the mirror every min and frontin on Instagram, you had to work out hard and put in that work...the era was totally different back then...when I started in 1998 I had to work out with living legends that you had to know about..people like big Born, big Just, Venom, Preach, jamaican Floyd, Razor, Shabazz, big Pat, big Body, R.I.P big Mike, Mrs.Betty Moore, big Gill, etc..nowadays the gym is still hard core but the new generation vibe is soft..the game has changed so much..I miss the hardcore era before lifting weights became a trendy thing..

I love richie's gym. But im still hurt till this day. That some of richie's buildings has closed down. Richie's gym is my home. I love that gym. Please everyone that's reading this and has seen this and other videos of richie's gym. Please let's keep richie's gym alive and open still. Its a really a very good gym. The price to workout there is very reasonable price. Not like your other gyms you going to where they have you to sign a contract. With richie's there are no contracts to sign accept a waiver of richie's rules thats it. But richie's gym is a really good place to be honestly.

Sunset Park Richie's might have to close down soon, they aren't taking one year memberships right now glad they're honest about that instead of taking peoples money. Were losing the battle in NY big time.

Back in 1990 Richie's opened on 60st n 4th ave, Sunset Park, Brooklyn. I was one of the first members. 35yrs of lifting. Richie's is gone. I'm going to the SBA for that commercial loan. Old school gyms rise like the phoenix. People will come. People will lift. People will jump on the treadmill. It is known

Wow so y did you close down the bush wick location. The last real gym in BK. All these new commercial gyms like planet fitness blink crunch can’t even compare, especially with all their restrictions. There shouldn’t be any restrictions when working out, especially if your not hurting anyone.

Very cool documentary. While I know gentrification is seen as a bad thing because it displaces people who are poor, I also see how it's good because it rejuvenates the area, businesses thrive, etc. so I'm a bit conflicted.
@LOGICAL-JAY5 жыл бұрын
Honestly gentrification looks good but has a evil hidden agenda...lets be honest it only caters to white folks..I dont mind the fix up but then it's somewhat kicking blacks and Hispanics out of their neighborhood because of the price hike on everything...the areas looses its soul and culture and is no longer a neighborhood..I dont mind new faces but i dont like when they come in trying to change the neighborhood rules overnight and the arrogant attitude that comes along with it..its turning into a crowded baby Manhattan with no soul..no parking, bumper to bumper traffic, new signs that state no left turns, older folks getting swindled out of their property, corner store prices shooting up, rent is ridiculous, the undertone racism, etc..another tactic they are doing is illegally raising homeowners property taxes to get them out too..I watched how they drugged up neighborhoods in the 80s and 90s and then years later take advantage of the people..they rocked blacks and Hispanics to sleep like they did the Indians when they 1st came over to America..its always some underhanded trickery with them..if you do the history you'll see how these people got rich doing illegal things and profited off of free labor then turn around and try to point the finger at blacks and Hispanics..I pay close attention and I dont ignore history..

I don’t get the complaint here. Why exactly don’t these people like all the change?
@zbw42005 жыл бұрын
It's not the addition to the community of new good things like more people and businesses, it's the loss of existing people and places like Richie's due to pricing out and aggressive manipulation. As many in the video pointed out, they have limited means to contend with the increasing costs that demand from outside the community brings.
@djwestbrook365 жыл бұрын
come on bro, its not rocket science. You don't get to live in your neighborhood anymore!
