Exactly what the Doctor ordered. The tones are awesome and the layout is old school peddling to dial in whatever the song needs. I needed the IEM setup. I just switched out the tremolo for a flanger and made a few snapshots and I'm gig ready. Thank You Richie!!!

Richie, stumbled onto Band Geek channel and then this channel a week or two ago. WTF planet are you from? You and your band mates are some very talented folks! There isn't a song that I have listened to that isn't awesome! 100% enjoyable. You all can play like mad and sing! To have one person with a good voice, but all of you. You just don't cover songs you re-do them breathing in fresh life. Thank you for posting them. Looking forward to hearing some more of your original work too, killer. This line 6 thing is cool too. Peace out.

Thanks for sharing your experience and hard work Richie. As much as I appreciate your singing and playing, thank you for not turning this into the usual You Tube post "let me show you my great performance abilities". You are a great performer but I tapped into this post for your abilities with the Helix and that is what I got - another great Helix tutorial. Everyone typically wants to turn these into an ego exercise but you gave us what you advertised - a great new preset. This has given me some new ideas for practicing in isolation with jam tracks. Thanks again for your excellent video, TW

Thanks Richie, this rig is cool! Ive had a Helix LT for a couple years now and wanted to try this rig on it. So I bought a small 29 euro microphone transformer (Shure A85F.) It turns the low impedance Mic signal suitable for the Return of the Helix LT and the sound quality is awesome! Only thing missing really is the separate headphones volume. Also, the aux/backing track will have to be mono with "only" two FX returns available on the LT.

This kind of solution does bring to mind a challenge or issue - namely that currently - like is the case for assigning MIDI messages to the stomps for controlling external gear - that currently this setup has to be repeated/copied for EVERY preset one wants to use like this. I'm really hoping that in future versions of HELIX FW - there will be some thought going into how to allow a common set of routing/assignment types of functions (chores) to be set up in GLOBAL presets and then - by setting up presets easily - allow the same routing/MIDI control global setup to be used in ANY patch - or in any patch that has had minimal changes done to it in order to use some commonly shared setup.

This has particular interest for me as i've been experimenting with being Quantiloop and iPad synths in AUM using an iPad over USB directly to/from the HELIX - and wondering about how to monitor/audition stuff on-the-fly before/without sending what is being played about with/tried out - looped riffs for example - to the final main mix. Quantiloops recent update supports sending selected audio to a "monitor" stereo output pair instead of or as well as the main stereo output and i've been mulling how to route things in the HELIX to make full use of this. The superb iOS mixer app AUM has this kind of thing too.

Richie, I'm highly thinking of buying Helix for this very reason in your video. Was there a huge learning curve on setting this up? I am in a Classic Rock cover band and this would eliminate using an amp and implementing Helix for amp and mic through in ear monitoring. I love this! It seems like it would add so much versatility.

Richie - which in ears/phones would you recommend for silent practice and band rehearsals? I've tried numerous in ears and headphones with modelers for two decades and they all sound harsh and annoying... Nothing like playing through an amp nor FRFR style amp. The only way to get a tone that's somewhat fun to play is to do a high shelf of 3k-4.5k. But then, the tone doesn't really cut through of course when with the band or with a track. Your tones here are very smooth and warm. Can you share any tips for dialing in gainy tones that are realistic through in ears / phones? Hope to get some ideas from you, someone using the Helix professionally. Love the band geek work!

Hi! Thank you for the video! I need your help, I have a Helix Stomp and I’m using an hybrid pedalboard: so I’m using my pedals plus the helix stomp for various effects and amps simulation/iR. Now the Helix Stomp has only one Send (stereo so I think you can use it as dual mono with an Y split cable) and two Returns (L/mono and R). So, for chains issue, I really want to keep my Nemesis delay in use cause I like it a lot, but I want the delay after the Reverb (which is in the Helix). So now I’m using this rooting, and it’s working: Tuner -> Comp -> Fuzz -> Octaver -> Ts8 -> Bb preamp -> Boost -> Helix (modulations and stuff) -> SEND Nemesis delay RETURN (L/mono) -> Helix (rev + amp/iR). Now is it possible tu use the other RETURN (R) for the in ear monitor. Practically I will add to the previous routing the split SEND (one in the nemesis and one in the PA), and then i will use the RETURN (R) for the PA, also I’ll plug my headphones in the HP slot and adjust global setting for the volume knob. What do you think, can it work? Otherwise I have to sacrifice the Nemesis before the Rev or after the Amp, and I don’t really like it. Sorry for the long question, hope you’ll read it. Thank you!!! 😊

Richie, am I understanding correctly that you can still receive the mix of the other band members through your IEM's with this setup? I'd love to be able to do something like this when I play electric in church. If I had the ability to have a completely custom in-ear mix just for my voice and guitar, while still getting to mix in the other band members, I'd be sold!

Hi Richie, thanks for this great video! I have one question about the Helix. Since I plan to dig deeper into the electric guitar world, I'm thinking about getting me a pedal board like the Helix. What you do is very inspiring, because I'm also a singer and I even consider integrating a piezo signal as well. You seem to use the pedal's power quite extensively, too... have you ever reached the limits of the pedal's computing power? Or can you really do anything you want, with a bunch of signal chains? Thank you very much! :)

This is amazing! I've been looking into the Helix LT and if it also works on the LT, I'm definitely pulling the trigger. My problem is that my current setup uses a personal mixer for my IEMs to mix the direct bass signal and the rest of the band, so I can balance the volumes of those two sources myself, and boost my bass if necessary, for example. Do you think it's possible to do the same, maybe with an FX return, so I could have the rest of the band in my ears, without having that signal go into the XLR outputs? If so, this means I can replace my entire rig (pedals + mixer) with the Helix. Thanks for the AWESOME idea!

So with this method, I can use for example an external source for the backing track for example, or a recording of my band, and I can monitor everything to my headphones for example? I need to make a list for what cables I need haha. At this moment I have a very weird setup. Output 1/4" in a combo, Helix connected via USB to my cubase, and it outputs everything what I have on the tracks in cubase. I am soooo noob in setting up these things.

Very clever! I assume you can also pan your guitar and vocal in your IEM to your taste? Also, panning of the individual instruments/vocals coming through the AUX is handled at the board, right (assuming a stereo send as you show)? If so, that is huge for sound imaging and making the use of IEMs way more pleasant.

So you have send block (which goes to PA or FOH), after that send block you have EQ and Volume so you can adjust what comes in your IEM? But after them you have also multi output? So everything what comes after that send block, affects what goes in PA or FOH, because that multi output gives signal also to those send outputs.. I love the idea to have little bit different EQ to FOH and your IEM but i just dont get it how this works? 😅

Now if you could only assign the volume control to your PA return/in ear, and then set your general level on the Phones vol. - Until then I'll stick with a small mixer to have complete control - on the fly control !! Btw. I send guitar to FOH via XLR to have a balanced signal with the option of ground lift...
@RichieCastellano
@RichieCastellano 7 жыл бұрын
Christian Boddum I'm not sure I understand. That's exactly what this preset does. The volume you set with the pedals doesn't affect the PA send at all.
@christianboddum8783
@christianboddum8783 7 жыл бұрын
I knew this would be a little tricky ;-) What I mean is; I wouldn't do like you do, I want to use the Volume knob and not the volume pedal to control the amount of in ear signal. Adding the in ear signal to the Jack-outs via returns 3/4, monitoring the jack outs in in headphones and of course controlling the headphones level via the Phones knob, If for some reason the FOH guy changes my in-ear signal, I want to be able to quckly correct it, on the fly so to speak. I have a separate path to FOH on the XLR's on which I add a FOH mute (an eq. set to - 60db.) it works great! You can't apply the volume knob on a stereo return yet, I'm hoping it will come in an update. I have suggested it to Line6 helix ideas ;-) I know you can maually set the return level, but still you need to do it in edit mode. does that clear thing up a little more? In short; if I could use the aux in to receive the stereo mix and have it go directly to the 1/4" jacks out then I would be set and happy ;-)

Richie, I need a solution to IEM my Guitar and monitor mix for my church. We are contemplating using a headphone amp and I need to take the stereo Headphone amp monitor mix into Helix. My guess is that I will need a stereo 1/4 split to two mono 1/4s and use two returns. I'm assuming that Aux In and Send/Return are all mono.
