WTBS coverage of the Richmond 400 Winston Cup race run on February 23, 1986. It's exactly as my cable company carried it, including commercials. I hope you enjoy it. Be sure to watch the end of the race as it set the tone for many races for many seasons to come.
The Richmond track was rebuilt shortly after this. In this era Richmond was the first race after the Daytona 500 and was often cold, and even got snowed out once or twice.
NASCAR Cup racing has changed dramatically since this race was run. This was near the end of the "good ol' boy" era. Soon all the races were televised, the sponsorships increased dramatically and the money started flowing.
This was dubbed from a VHS tape recorded at the ELP speed so the quality is not up today's digital DVR standards. But it's what we had available then. And without major expense real time analog copying is the only way to convert it so you lose a generation. Apologies for any audio problem. It was fine on the tape, and during the conversion process. But seems to gack periodically.
