Schubert e richter...un mondo a parte. Luci, ombre, atmosfere rarefatte , temporali improvvisi...proprio come avviene nella nostra anima. Questa è la musica del cuore.

A perfect photo to go with this piece (even if it was not taken in Budapest in 1963). How much time do we still have--for love, for life? How much time for desire? How much time for joy? How much time for suffering? Schubert is asking us (me) these questions, and so is Richter.

How to interpret this interesting moment in the photo? A melancholy comment on the passage of time? Or more likely, he was checking his timing either before or after playing the piece.

Mir scheint Schubert... Drei Klavierstücke no 2 gespielt von Sv.. Richter, dasselbe dort zu hören von Chopin.. Ballade no 2 Op. 38.. (Chopin Recital Moscow 1950) auch gespielt von Sv. Richter. Wat is juist ?

I regard Richter as the greatest interpreter of Schubert's music. That said, and despite his beautiful sound, he's not fully convincing here.

Herr Warum this is a b minus interpretation as he's a b minus Schubert student at best

bittenheroz yeah keep telling yourself that Schiff’s historically informed academism is superior to Richter’s striking artistry.

I'm not happy about the speedings-up and slowings-down; the whole piece should be in a single tempo. Always challenging to listen to Richter! Thanks for posting.

Joseph Laredo it's a pity that Richter didn't know that the whole piece should be in a single tempo, you are so lucky to know it....
@josephlaredo52727 жыл бұрын
Ha! Very droll! What is a pity is that some performers think they know better than the composer. I'm generally an admirer of Richter, by the way, and I heard him twice live. I still remember not only what he played, but how he played it. Like all the greats, he created a unique atmosphere in the concert hall; he could do almost anything and have you hanging on every note. No doubt he would have made these tempo changes totally convincing in the hall, but on record they don't work. Sokolov is the same: in concert he is mesmerising; on record, his exaggerations can sound merely self-indulgent. But no doubt you will have some sarcastic comment to make on that, too ...

Every single pianist plays it like that. Indeed very strange, there is no indication whatsoever that it was intended that way.
