I think reason why Eddie was torturing Samantha was not only to get her to use her powers, but a personal vendetta against her and weaver. In one of documents from Samantha she wrote in her diary how she and Weaver failed to save a boy and a woman from burning house, making Weaver guilty of their deaths, and Samantha. Knowing that it was Samantha and Weaver responsibility for the death of his wife and son I think it was revenge move on Samantha from Eddie, making her feel pain that he went through losing his son and wife.

I think that when "Zombie" Richtofen died, his soul was tied to the Dark Aether. Maybe when the universe collapsed, it fused with Eddie's soul. Kind of like Saraxis soul and memories were separated and fused in Vanguard Shino Numa. His compassion for Samuel for deceiving him, he ended up naming his son after him. It's not a coincidence, he remembers him. Eddie wouldn't of known because they were talking telepathically. Just my thought.

i don't think it ever actually ended, they just went to a different dimension IMO. think of eddie and samantha as the new version of the blood vials: as long as they exist, so does everything else tied to them. that's why a lot of the newer enemies looke incredibly familiar. the abominations and the mimics are very similar to the margwas, mauer der toten has the keeper's emo cousin, we got the russian mangler back, and some other tiny call backs such as samantha returning from the dark aether with the primis crew's gear, nacht der untoten existing in 2 different forms, the perks, mystery box, and pack a punch which monty created, and it might be a stretch, but i kind of think that the alter that you get the super easter egg rewards from could be a new form of monty and the shadow man or something. when you activate it, they say some things that could be from they're perspective, or someone else that was important to the story. treyarch likes to throw us off and make us think something completely different from what they're actually doing, once they see us move on and "forget what we know" they'll probably have everything come full circle and give us half li- i mean chronicles 2

i think the reason why eddie tortures samantha imo of it is because she came from the same place eddie did, he has his memmories but she doesnt. hes likely either doing it to fix his original world and dimension that he lived in and trying to set things right or he has managed to retain knowledge of other versions of him self in some way and is looking to destroy any evidence of his dimension which has travelled over without killing samantha and is doing it by trying to see everything she is capable of by using key moments he remembers from the past dimension such as killing the dog or possibly turning the dog into a hell hound in order to trigger everything he needs for the research he can gather in order to get the timeline of the original dimension back on track to what is needed to be done in order to win and prevent it from happening yet again. i think eddie does for sure have good intentions however has no choice in his mind to do things hes not even comftable of in order to get things done within their own original dimension.

I believe that Richtofen soul is connected to all the other Richtofen even though he was killed as an innocent child version it seems that he remembers everything that happened to Nikolai and the other premise and ultimate version of them He's recreating all the incidents that group 935 did in the past like killing Samantha's dog and made to hellhound that can teleport then calling the Omega agent to be killed by an innocent child pulls a trigger so it gives Samantha an option just like how Nikolai died. it seems that the universe brought back old memories that he can remember from all his other counterparts into the new universe and since they were separated for so long she doesn't know the extent of her true power but he does That's why I believe

I believe with Mason and Reznov, it isn't DID, but Mason entering a completely manic state where he believes he is Reznov and yet believes he was there next to him, judging by how overly aggressive he acts. I highly doubt it's DID as we know nothing of Mason's childhood, however it could be likely Samantha Maxis does

I saw a video some years back saying that Richthofens original soul didn’t really die, but overtook Eddie’s soul. So Richthofen didn’t really die, and this is probably why the dark aether still exists. Don’t quote me on this, I saw this video once and a long time ago. So I can’t remember. Simply put, it’s still the evil Richthofen who is Eddie.

I’m about to blow that theory away. When they destroyed the multiverse and the character sacrificed themselves.they completely erased evey existing incarnation of richtofen meaning no richtofen would survive.Eddie survived because his soul was purified.And separated from richtofen.richtofen soul would count as an incarnation .And we also learn that if any version exist in any form wither it be a soul or flesh the cycle would restart and we’re back at square one.Since the cycle hasn’t restarted that means richtofen doesn’t exist in any form.meaning Eddie is his own soul

He would remember the zombies, the parallel world, ect if he remembers all that about Sam. So he would/should be doing everything possible to prevent another bout of that. I don't mind him being a schemer and he could USE that but for the betterment of mankind.
