I think the creators really make Jerry represent a type of person worthy of being hated. Someone who rarely thinks of the consequences for his actions, never learns anything, and always makes life more difficult for the people around him, specially those closest to him. I get genuinely angry when he says "I'm not an evil person", after deliberately lying and putting his children in mortal danger; mostly because there are a lot of people like him, who can do horrible things while still convinced they are good people

Jerry is a low level threat and is certainly not evil in comparison to just about everyone else in his family, even his kids, who have all been complicit in genocide. Almost everything you said also applies to Rick, except to a billion times larger degree. Jerry isn't worthy of being hated, he is worthy of being pitied. Jerry causes problems with his family through his incompetence and negligence, while Rick deliberately does so and only feels anything when it comes back to bite him in the ass.

I think Jerry is a good example of "everyday evil" (for lack of a better term) if that makes sense. Like,,, the majority of us will never come across a person as violent and messed up as Rick, but we all know a couple of Jerry's. The "nice guys" who think they are entitled to the world for being mediocre and taking their own problems and insecurities out on their friends and family. Racist, sexist, emotionally manipulative, etc.

@@Tyrantofthewind Yes, in comparison, Rick, and even Morty and Summer, are far more destructive. I don't think Jerry is evil, but I still hate him when he says he isn't evil, right after clearly doing something that immediately and knowingly put other people in danger, like that time he tried to put his genitals into an alien's open chest cavity and gets himself shot a bunch of times. I believe people are defined by their actions, not their beliefs, thoughts nor emotions. So I tend to dislike when someone still tries to brand themselves as good, without doing anything good
