If only they had released Nothing Can Divide Us, it would have been a huge hit 😔 However, you can hear the strain in his voice during the raw vocals, and he might not have been able to sing it live.

Well it was a huge hit for Jason Donovan-so what you on about? Thought that was common knowledge!
@furiousfantom53742 жыл бұрын
@@mikekaraoke No, I was saying it would have been a huge hit for Rick, but obviously it also was huge for Jason as well. He didn’t end up releasing it because he didn’t think it would perform well in the charts, so he might regret not releasing it

@@furiousfantom5374 Oh right sorry, yea would of been a huge hit for Rick! But your wrong that Rick thought he wouldn't perform well in the charts-he even said by that time he wasn't something he wanted to release as by that time he wanted a more mature sound like-Hold me in your arms.

Yes, you certainly can hear the strain in Rick's voice and you can also hear they cut and paste various parts of his vocal, guess they used the best bits of a couple of takes. I'm glad he didn't release it because he already had enough fantastic tracks that gave him huge hits!
@ladyjennyanytime51952 жыл бұрын
@@dancelover020 I agree, you can tell he sang the 1st and 2nd lines completely separately and his voice slightly cracks on the word HEAD during the Head up high line and then towards the end of the last few lines he's really pushing at the top of his range and sounds like its on his vocal break. He's a bariotone-tenor but he never really used his top end of his range often if at all I don't think. He definitely knew how he wanted to sound and I think had SAW lowered the key of the song it could have worked for Rick in a way that he would have been happier with.. But He didn't like the song , I think it might've been cuz it ws too high for him and didn't like how he sounded on the track. It's interesting to hear his take of the song . the 2 note jump on the word "Nothing" is an unusual choice and not easy to sing, I wonder if thats how they wanted it sung or whether he chose to do that himself.

it's surprising to hear Rick's vocals without reverb and some effects. A really good singer

I cam say that Stock-Aitken-Waterman were the AI in the 80s Pop Music. We can see and hear them in their projects. Same pattern, same style, same instruments, but they can generate the lyrics so quickly. They worked like AIs today.

Jason Donovan has the correct vocal to use for Nothing Can Divide Us, Rick made the right call rejecting it as his voice didn't really suit that song, also Rick is very correct saying Jason would have had a hit regardless as he's popularity was huge because of neighbours. Even Jason sad he was a young good-looking guy during the Piers Morgan 2010 interview so so his appeal was there for fans.

SAW need to go into the vaults, polish up and release some of these gems, the same way Motown has, rather than just endlessly re-releasing the same tried and tested previously released tracks.

Jason Donovan at the risk of stating the obvious vocally is nowhere near Rick Astley. If this was offered to Rick in 87 he would have done it. By the time of Jason’s release he was getting a bit fed up of the SAW factory line of stuff that all sounded similar.
@mikekaraoke11 ай бұрын
He wasn't offered it in 1987, but for his 2nd album: Hold me in your arms which was recorded in Feb till Sept of 1988! He was offered it in Jan of 1988. + wanted a more mature sound, plus he was writing more songs himself by this point!
