Not criticising his band members, they are obviously great musicians but when we consider the magic that sprang from his fellows in The Band it must have been so hard to find that magic again. God bless all of the Band who have passed. I remember Music From Big Pink when my history teacher brought it to school saying : No history today you kids must hear this.

He looked terrible when he appeared in a small bar in Philly days before he died, but still sang like an angel, and Garth was there playing keys, it was magical and a fitting swan song for a great musician.

ChopsHannigan Hi chops and thanks for sharing,,I am from the philly area and Rick is my rock hero...Then and now !! I was wondering if you have anymore details of that show...Set list,,were the fans engaged,,Etc. ?? hearing Rick was in the area where I live and i had no idea upsets me,,,I could of been their to see my hero,,but as we all know Rick was not in good shape,,And he was taken peacefully in his sleep...

It was at the North Star bar, a tiny joint up a flight of stairs, Danko covered a lot of Band material cause Garth was in full swing, and I don't keep set lists, he sounded way better than he looked, it was a last minute gig cause I only heard about it late that afternoon, the thing that irked me, everybody but this one yuppie couple, the gal kept yik-yakking over the music and kept going on and on about their too fabulous lifestyle she just wouldn't stfu, so finally I grabbed the guy by the collar shook him a little and said one more word out of her and i'm going to paste you, they got right up and harrumphed to another part of the bar.

ChopsHannigan Thanks again chops for your report on rock and roll history...I did not know Garth was their !! Out of all the band combo's during their solo projects it seems Garth was always with Rick most of the time...To me that say's a lot about Garth's admiration for Rick !!

@@debs4mysweetbaby I’ve noticed that a lot of my favorite bass players were guitarists first. Both Danko and Paul McCartney were guitarists, and became the bass player in their bands because they had to. They both played with a pick, and both play extremely intricate yet melodic bass lines.

I was lucky enough to see The Band live when they toured Australia in June 1988. They played The Enmore Theatre in Sydney. Only 2 original members. Rick Danko and Garth Hudson. Jim Weider was on guitar as was Blondie Champlin. Levon's nephew was on drums. I still have fond memories of that night. So good to hear Rick sing!!!
@BertisGuitar
@BertisGuitar 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Eric - I was at that gig; i remember Twilight being the highlight...I believe it was Buddy Cage rather than Jim Weider playing that night and he was a secret sauce in the mix that night, especially on that song. You didn’t buy the shocker of a concert tape at the bar, did you...awful, but the Enmore gig was tops

extraordinary, wonderful performance by a great band, and Rick Danko at his peak. Run out of superlatives for the musicianship. I loved the solo album when it came out, wore it out. I saw Rick at The Palomino club in North Hollywood, CA in 1984, when he appeared with Paul Butterfield. They were just feet from me... Rick said "We're in your living room, isn't this great..." had a word with him at the bar, what a gifted musician and sweet man. I'd like to hear who were the players here; we know from others Terry Danko, Denny Seiwel, ... incredible.

Sometimes when he toured he would do two shows at a venue, early evening and later. Even the Band did that in the 1980s when I saw them. Also, someone posted a Danko-Butterfield video of a live show in Colorado from 1979 and they put both sets on from the same night.
