I was 23 years old and driving a milk truck for Turner Dairies in Memphis. My route took me right past Graceland some days. My memory may be faulty, so take this for what it's worth. Elvis was overweight at the time and was being teased in the media about it. There was a story in the Commercial Appeal saying Elvis had been spotted at a Dunkin Donuts just down Elvis Presley Boulevard around 3 am buying 4 dozen jelly donuts. Supposedly, this was Rick Dees inspiration for this song. The first time I heard it I was driving and had to pull over. I was laughing so hard. A few weeks later, Elvis died. You never heard this song again. You never even heard anyone MENTION this song. Memphis was in mourning. It doesn't seem that funny anymore.

According to Osbornes collectible records book; this was released as a single shortly before Elvis died. When he died it immediately disappeared from the sales shelves.

I saw this song posted on another page, and some Elvis fans were mad. I mean, they were just pissed. In Dees' defense, he released it before "The Kang" passed.

I am looking for a joke that was told by Rick Dees about 5a.m. in the morning. It was a kitty litter joke that was associated with a woman who had a urinary tract infection that left remnants in her panties. I was a Process Server way back then, working in the mid-Wilshire District. While driving, I had to pull my car over, because this joke was absolutely hilarious. It came to mind because my wife just mentioned it. She was driving, on her way to work when she heard the joke too. PLEASE.., somebody needs to RESURRECT this joke!

Yeah, I remember riding to school one morning when Rick Dees had a spoof with "Bro. Billy Frank Birmingham from Hernando Mississippi" playing golf with Oral Roberts and when he tried to putt the ball into the hole "it healed." This joke even had my mother laughing. (she was driving because she taught sixth grade at the same school I attended and I wasn't old enough to drive yet.) Dees was hilarious; one of a kind!!

Rick Dee's got on my nerves when I had to hear KIIS FM (which was the last station he was on in LA) at work when I wanted to hear the AOR stations KMET or KLOS in the 80's, but this is one of my FAVE novelty/comedy songs :D. I cant help having Milk and donuts coming 'out my nose! Hahaha :D

Having lived in Memphis for quite a long time, I can tell you that this song was broadcast on WHBQ on quite a regular basis during the winter of Dec. '76 - Feb. '77. I was QUITE a fan of country music at that time and would not listen to anything except country music whenever I had any say in the matter.

This was eerily prophetic! Rick Dees dis have some interesting luck. Either that or he knew something 'bout Elvis the rest of America didn't!

That Elvis was in abominable physical shape and sometimes incoherent was hardly a secret then. "National Lampoon" did a cover about it, and entertainment critics were commenting on it.

@@antoniod This was before my time but I do recall watching some 20/20 or dateline style story about Elvis with my parents in the late 80s and the narrater said a phrase like “the public didn’t know Elvis had health problems before his death”. Right at that second both my parents chimed in what a bunch of BS or something of that extent. Many people knew Elvis was in dire straits physically. I’m not sure why some go with the narrative it was a complete shock when Elvis passed. Hell this song was made almost a year before his death and even that is proof people knew Elvis was unhealthy.
