I just ordered one of these and I've been watching tons of reviews of it. You're one of the few that actually play stuff that lends itself to showing off the effects. So many others are playing in styles that make it so you can't really detect the effect much. They don't leave any space for the effect to shine. Thanks for doing it right!

Bill Blackstarr Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! That’s exactly why I made the video the way I did. I too had a lot of questions about the unit that nobody addressed or played examples of what you could do with the different effects it offered. I’m glad it is helping out so many people. I hope you enjoy your Tonewood Amp when you get it.

Bought a Tonewood Amp for 165.00 It did sound good, after 2 years it quit. I never dropped it or left it outside, took excellent care of it. Bought it new from Sweetwater, who me they have in house technicians. Called them and was told to send it to Tonewood with a 100 check, and after 1 hour they charged 120 dollars an hour. They will overcharge you for repairs, knowing most people won’t pay this, then they will resale it .

This was so great. When I heard about Tonewood, I kept thinking- I wonder what the reverb would sound like on “Is There Anybody Out There” or how the delay would sound for “Run Like Hell” (Another Brick in the Wall was close enough to get the idea). The one I still really want to hear is “Born on the Bayou” with that slower tremolo. I guess I’ll have to buy one and find out for myself!

One of the first people on KZbin (even from seemingly professional studio musicians) to understand that it's NOT an amp (IE a powered speaker that plays from an outside sound-source). Rather as he explained: "it vibrates the back & the tonewoods of your guitar, which give you different effects. Delay, Tremolo, etc." There is a more detailed explanation to be said technically, but this is basically what's happening. And this is important to understand, because it's actually changing the CHARACTER of the guitar's sounds. In other words, not only are the strings creating the guitar sounds, but so is the vibrating membrane pressed against the guitar. I will be explaining this in detail on my KZbin series, The Acoustic Rabbit Hole. One buyer on Amazon actually returned her amp, complaining that it wasn't "loud enough." SHE JUST DIDN"T UNDERSTAND, even giving it a thumbs-down! Great post here! (Also, great to see an American Flag here in knowledge that these units are made in Arizona, USA!). -- Cheers from The Acoustic Rabbit Hole in Bent, New Mexico.

Hi ! Is it not recommended (or not) to leave the ToneWoodAmp permanently on the guitar? Does this not risk, in the long term, to prematurely alter the efficiency of the magnetization? Thank you for your opinion .. MP
@rickfoell-lasvegassingermu83445 жыл бұрын
I’ve talked to the folks at Tonewood and they said that leaving it on the guitar for long periods of time can damage the finish and/or the wood leaving deep dents. They said the magnetic pull can become stronger over longer periods of time. They recommend that it is taken off of the guitar when not in use.

Can this device also get one more volume out of an electric acoustic guitar when not using other amplification?

J Boughtin That is correct. It needs to be plugged into the 1/4” output from your electric/acoustic guitar with the volume level up in order to send a signal to the unit. That’s why you might have seen me adjust my volume knob on my guitar a time or two. Depending on the effect selection on the unit, if you have your guitar volume up too loud it can cause slight distortion as you may have heard on my video.

Can you mix two effects at the same time? Thank you
@rickfoell-lasvegassingermu83445 жыл бұрын
victor cm Unfortunately no. The selector dial selects one effect at a time. However, you can adjust the different levels of the effects within the patch.

is that a true j-200 or an epiphone? no mistaking that j-200 sound!

That is an Epiphone EJ-200. But I’ve also got a Gibson J-200 Vintage Custom as well. They both play and sound awesome.

Are you still happy with it? There's also an update where you can replace the distortion with a chorus effect now

Jamesey.Frey Oh cool, I didn’t know that. Good to know, I’ll have to check it out. Yes, still happy with it, thanks!

Great Sound..Where did you get yours, cost, and can you get extra magnets for each guitar. THX

Sorry for the delay in answering back. I got mine direct through Tonewood Amp website, I think it was around $249, and yes you can order extra x-braces. I did that too so I didn't have to keep pulling the x-brace out of one guitar and putting into another. This way I can just remove the unit from the back of one guitar and put it on my other one.

Price $249.00 US dollars. In each box is an X-Brace, one set. Don't know if u can purchase extra. Check with sellers.

Obviously hasn’t watched “Wayne’s World” ... NO “Stairway to Heaven” allowed!! Seriously though, nice relaxed, easy to listen to, demo ... most demos seem to be presented by folks on amphetamines!! Nice job. Oh, yeah, the device. Didn’t notice any feedback (which is the bane of acoustics with effects). ... somehow I was expecting something or perhaps hoping for something, that enhanced the acoustic sound without plugging in. However, nice device none the less.

John Gray Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, unfortunately it needs to be plugged into the guitar. I don’t know if they’ve figured out a way to do it with regular acoustic guitars yet. Maybe there’s something in development. Thank again!

Thanks for clarifying; the Tonewood will NOT work on any acoustic guitar by itself UNLESS the acoustic guitar is fitted with a pickup, a preamp and an output jack. I see your guitar has 2 JACKS. Your’s is the only demo video that shows this; none of them mention anything of the installation except the magnetic X-brace. Since the electric pickup is necessary I’d suppose you’d connect the preamp output to the Tonewood input leaving the Tonewood to operate with (or without) an external amp. Will you explain the second jack on your guitar ?
@rickfoell-lasvegassingermu83445 жыл бұрын
Bill Nogooglcompliance You’re very welcome. Glad I could clarify that for a lot of others as well. You’re right, many of the demo videos are not real clear on that. The guitar I am playing in this video is an Epiphone EJ200 and is equipped with 2 different pickups: a NanoMag at the end of the neck and a NanoFlex on the bridge. This allows the option to use the main output jack and blend both pickups together to your preferred tone with the EQ slider. Or use the other output jack to use just the NanoMag pickup and not the bridge pickup to get a different tone. Or possibly run both outputs to two different amps to get totally different tones, effects, etc out of each amp. There’s many possibilities, just depends on what you require for what you’re doing. I have many guitars for all the different styles of music that I play to get the right tone and feel I need. You can never have too many guitars, lol!

does this work on any acoustic guitar?
@rickfoell-lasvegassingermu83444 жыл бұрын
It will only work on an Electric/Acoustic guitar. You'll need to run the provided short 1/4" patch cable out from the unit and plug into your guitar to make it work.

Not ovation round back guitars
@rickfoell-lasvegassingermu83444 жыл бұрын
Dicky Bergquist That’s right, I didn’t even think about Ovations acoustics. Oh well, I guess you’ll have to use an amp and pedals to get effects for Ovations.

Rick, your first few pieces you played - we are almost exactly the same guitarist! lol. That A major add 9 on the fifth fret modulating down to the major seventh, down to the minor ninth, I wrote that, hey! lol
