Presenting them with snow chains *sounds* like a nice gift, but it implies it won't happen again because *they* will be prepared. Depending on the region you're in, that could feel like blaming the family for being unprepared. Then again I'm also from the PNW so read into everything for the passive aggression. And a New Yorker hosting a lobster-off has the same energy as "Throwdown! with Bobby Flay." A whole show where he, a famous chef, goes to mom-and-pop shops and tries to dunk on people by cooking *their* signature dish.
