Rick Hall is a cousin of mine. I was an orpan placed for adoption at birth. At 48 I found out my ancestors are from Alabama. One of those is Rick Hall. Amazing find in life

It's all about the "ears!" You either have them or you don't and I have worked in recording studios for over 50 years. I promise, it's all about the ears and that's what makes a good record producer.

Until recently, with the release of documentaries like “The Wrecking Crew”, “Standing In The Shadows of Motown”, and “Muscle Shoals”, most people had no idea how records were made, or how stellar the musicianship of the session players who provided the music for all the hits was, or what the recording process was like, with talented engineers and producers, or, how certain studios had their own sound, their own distinct sonic “vibes”, that also played an important part in the magic of so many great records. Rick Hall was most certainly a pioneer and innovator of music production, and his contribution, along with The Swampers session players who played on the tracks for so many of those hit records, is absolutely undeniable in the success of soul and southern rock artists. RIP, Good Sir. Thank you for the magic. 🙏

rick is awesome but he admittedly did not "get" southern rock when his session guitarist Duane Allman tried to convince him. Lynyrd Skynrd recorded in muscle shoals but not at ricks. they recorded at the swampers studio across town. rick later said he regretted it. watch the doc "muscle shoals"

Rick Hall IS an inspiration, n I really don't think his tragic past n personal life ever left him, especially when he got older n you can see this.........but the video production Muscle Shoals is clearly a tribute to him, and serves as his epitaph, as well as a biography to him n his accomplishments n disappointments.

Did The Rolling Stones actually record at Fame Studios? I thought they recorded in the studio built by Jerry Wexler for Rick Hall's former band members Roger Hawkins, Jimmy Johnson, etc. He was a smart guy!
@tomcarl80212 жыл бұрын
Rick's original band ( Roger, Jimmy, David, and Barry) quit working for Rick and opened their own recording studio. It was that studio where the Stones recorded, not FAME. And Jerry Wexler didn't build the studio, the band did. Jerry loaned them the money to build it and he brought many of Atlantic's artists down to record there. It's a very complex story. Took me years to find out exactly what happened there.

Right? Is Rick taking credit here that doesn't really belong to him? Although, he DID invent the Muscle Shoals sound/scene. So in a way, I guess he is directly responsible for all the acts that came to record at Muscle Shoals Sound, too.

Yeah. Rick just kind of went with the Stones question. They recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound, not Fame. Jimmy Johnson put that together.

the whole FAME studios thing is way overrated. I took the tour and they fail to mention most of the pop and rock music was produced at Muscle Sholes sound studios not FAME. if you go ther e make sure you tour ALL the studios and find out the REAL story!

#BlackLivesMatter should cancel all the black artists who needed all those white country boys for their music. Couldn't be done with black producers/musicians, apparently, though.
