have a free idea lads. "Rick's Revenge", a spin off series of break 75. rick and his team find a subscriber out there (bonus points if they have been talking rubbish) and he's brought into the videos to post a score. the camera pressure. the rulings. the blow up holes. just as much as we can talk about how good tour pros really are, it's easy to forget how good youtuber golfers really are

I was lucky enough to play a PGA course (Warwick Hills in Michigan) on a Monday following the tournament back in 2003 when I was 19. Real tournament conditions and Sunday pin placements. I believe the winner that week shot around -24 or something. At the time I was a 3hcp. I shot 79 and I was THRILLED! I three putted 4 times. It was so hard. These pros are just so, so good it’s ridiculous.

On the topic of the average golfer playing in a PGA tournament which I completely agree should be a thing, I think one important aspect was massively overlooked. The mental side of golf is just as important as the skill side, so to Rick’s point I think simulating it wouldn’t have the same effect as an actual person playing demonstrating just how nervy any average player would also be as compared to how mentally stable the pros are able to keep themselves

Tour pro handicaps, Another way of looking at it is…. The more holes they play the more under par they get. A club golfer with a handicap the more holes they play the more over par they get. The difference between the two are continually increasing.

Most par 70s have 2 long par 4s in place of 2 easy par 5s. I think 59 is legit on a tournament level course. Justin Rose was my favourite break 75. Well played Rick

Rick is finally getting around to figuring out that the key to better golf for him now lies between his ears :) AND... yes, let's get a group of scratch golfers, 9 and 18 handicappers to play. The "person" playing would show EXACTLY how a real person would do with the crowd and pressure and course conditions, etc. That's what we want.

Great Podcast as always, regarding the level of how those players play, I might give an example. Some years ago I went to Vilamoura in Portugal a week before the Victoria Course was closed for the Portugeese open. We were all single Hcp. And we were not allowed to enter the Championship tees. We really struggled and non of us was able to shoot close to our HCP because the greens were redicules, I remeber the first tee when we shot slightly right into the Rough (maybe 10-15 cm thik) and the starter said we might should a provisional. we didn't and did not find the balls, this is how thik this stuff was. All the C-Tees were very far back, so after the round we were wondering what those DP world tour Pros would shood around there. And we were so sure that the course is that difficult that a -5 or -6 would win the thing. Winning score was -23 at the end. That was rediculess and shows that they actually play a different game than us humans! Regarding the fitting, I had such a fitting where I was going to be fitted for irons and the fitter send me away with the words, new irons would not benefitt you at all, same with the driver, I bought 4 Wokeys but that's another story ;-)

25:38 spectators would be in danger too. Also, the PGA Tour has been doing landing zones and hypothetical tracers for high handicappers but it basically only represents distance on a good shot, not duffs or tops or slices etc.

I asked ChatGPT: what would an average 18 handicap golfer shoot around a golf course in tour conditions? An 18 handicap golfer is generally expected to shoot around 18 strokes over the course rating under normal conditions. However, golf courses set up for professional tournaments, commonly referred to as "tour conditions," present significantly more challenging circumstances than typical courses. These conditions include: 1. **Longer Course Length**: Professional courses are often longer, with more demanding tee placements. 2. **Faster Greens**: Greens are maintained at a higher speed, requiring more skill to navigate. 3. **Thicker Rough**: The rough is usually thicker and more penal, making it harder to recover from off-line shots. 4. **Pin Positions**: Pin positions are often set in more challenging locations. 5. **Increased Pressure**: The overall atmosphere can add psychological pressure, although this might not directly apply to a casual player. Given these factors, an 18 handicap golfer would typically score higher than usual. Here’s a breakdown of the expected scoring: Estimating the Score in Tour Conditions 1. **Baseline Handicap Scoring**: - An 18 handicap golfer is expected to shoot about 90 on a par-72 course under normal conditions. 2. **Adjustments for Tour Conditions**: - **Longer Course**: Adds 2-4 strokes due to longer holes and potentially higher difficulty in reaching greens in regulation. - **Faster Greens**: Adds 2-3 strokes because of increased three-putts and difficulty in approach shots. - **Thicker Rough**: Adds 2-3 strokes due to more difficult recovery shots and increased likelihood of bogeys or worse. - **Challenging Pin Positions**: Adds 1-2 strokes due to more difficult putts and increased chances of missing greens. - **Psychological Pressure**: Adds 1-2 strokes for the challenge of facing a more demanding course setup. Expected Score Range By adding these adjustments, we can estimate: - **Normal Condition Score**: 90 (18 over par on a par-72 course) - **Tour Condition Adjustments**: 8 to 14 additional strokes (combined impact of various factors) Therefore, the expected score for an 18 handicap golfer under tour conditions would be in the range of **98 to 104**. Considerations - **Skill Level Variations**: Individual golfers' ability to adapt to difficult conditions can vary, so some might perform slightly better or worse. - **Course Specifics**: Different courses might have specific features that could further impact scoring. For instance, courses with significant water hazards might add even more strokes. Summary An 18 handicap golfer can expect to shoot between **98 and 104** on a golf course set up for a professional tournament, assuming the course is a standard par-72 layout. This estimate accounts for the increased difficulty posed by tour conditions and the golfer’s typical performance under normal circumstances.

This perfect example of why Chat GPT and all other LLM are not AI but just mashing up stuff they were fed without any real understanding. 18 hendicap amateur golfer would shoot atleast double of what he shoots on an actual professional tournament course.

Young may have hit 59 with preferred lies, but that was the same for the entire field that day and it helped him get into the top 10 for the tournament and bank over $500K. So it counts for a lot for him.

I think we have to look at what Scottie is doing, all be it good in its own right, doesn't compare to past , or Tiger. The fields are not the same, with the split of leagues and DP World Tour, you can not say he's going up against the best fields and players at top of game every week, like we saw a decade ago.

tough run at the qualifier. People don't really realize just how much different tournament play is. Besides the courses being harder or whatever. Just the mentality of it is so tough without a bunch of recent tournament golf under your belt.

Guy was on form today. Tour players should have handicaps. Then the majors could become stableford events where you add strokes to the players according to their handicaps. Play badly until the majors and then cash in. 😅😅😅
