Wow, this is a blast from the past. One of the famed "Three M" boys from that era, Maravich, Mount & Murphy. All very different except that they were all scoring machines. I remember him well because as I grew up in the Norwalk, CT area we were obviously partial to Calvin Murphy, so both Maravich & Mount were kind of long distance rivals of sorts.

Purest shooting stroke you will ever see. Exactly the same every time. Dribble once or twice , elevate and release. Pure! They weren’t setting screens to get him open.

When I was a little boy , I saw Rick Mount on TV . He was the first to show me , it was ok to buck conventional wisdom & shoot long shots anyway . With no 3-point line , you'd be ridiculed for even shooting them . Benched . It had to be my weapon against much older guys in our neighborhood . As a senior , my weapon wasn't valued in '77 ( 3 came in '80 ) About that time , a few miles away , arrived a guy named Larry . Turned out to be an excellent guy to mimic going forward . Into my mid twenties my 3 became downright deadly . They had to double team the ball out of my hands early , then deny . Always tried to get better . Spent many hours in the gym , by myself . "gym rat" for sure . Plenty of trash talk for sure . Loved Larry & Reggie Miller for that . That would be a case of I won't start it , but would be severe once I banged 3 threes in 3 trips . I always have said , as a shooter , when the ball is going to the rim , do the other 9 players on the court think it's going in , just because they let you get it off ?? , Or not . I got there. It was quite a zone to be in . Through the years , I've studied all sorts of guys shot release . The 3 is now shot more than ever . Stephen Curry's seems to be as similar as any I've seen . The years have now past . I'm in my sixties now & don't need to go the way of Pistol Pete. Another of my early influences . I maximized what I had . Great memories . Here's to growing up in Indiana , playing hoops . And here's to you Rick Mount , handing out license to " Let it fly " Hope life is treating you well . Every word as true as the day ( or 3point shot ) is long. Long Bomber Out .

Definition of a pure jump shot! His turn around jumper, and baseline J picture perfect!

It's great seeing the Rocket's jump shot again after more than 50 years. Also Billy Keller and Herm Gilliam playing with Rick on Purdue's team. Thanks for posting.

Pistol Pete actually was the first NBA player to sign a million dollar contract one year before Rick signed his million dollar contract. Google is incorrect. Pistol signed his contract in 1970 and Rick signed his in 1971

Where did you find this recording?

That is the old Lafayette Jeff Gym. Note the bucking Broncos in the center court circle. The game is probably the 1966 Regional Championship which I saw. Mount was on fire and won the game almost single handed, against a very good Jeff team.

Rick was almost as good as the the pistol

Rick was a way better shooter , No doubt about that
@jaykay63872 ай бұрын
@@stever1791 It's a "debate" that could be had, not so sure I agree. I think Calvin Murphy is a better pure shooter than both of them, but it's an interesting conversation. All three were ridiculously good, no debate about that.

@@jaykay6387 I agree . All 3 were really great and all came into college at the same time. Muphy was so great as were Rick and Pistol. Pure shooting though , I think Rick was more of a "dead eye than Calvin and Pete. Just my Opinion. Loved them all

None of these guys would stand a chance in today's game and if you think differently your delusional

You have no understanding of sports, athletics, training, or anything other than clip-show highlights.
@THEEEHIPPPY Жыл бұрын
@unknown they didn't have the training or anything that's exactly why I say that I'm not saying they aren't capable of being better I'm saying right now if you took them and dropped them into the NBA with the skill set they had back then they would not stand a chanceb
@THEEEHIPPPY Жыл бұрын
@unknown and first of all basketball now is way to soft and they would just foul out in the first quarter anyways
@THEEEHIPPPY Жыл бұрын
@unknown so yes I do have an understanding of sports but you can not tell me if you took LeBron James with the skills he has and put him in that game he would drop 100 easy

@theehippy You just don't understand the game relative to talent and time, I know Rick well, he's a friend. If you put him in the contemporary game with present day training, trends, nutrition etc., he'd excel. If you put LeBron back to the late 60's, he'd be Gus Johnson, Late 60s, 70s players would evolve my friend.
