Define a putt…. Opinion…. If you decide to use a putter off the green and the end result is the ball rests on the green or in the hole it is a putt. A putt is a stroke where a putter is the club of choice. However, the end result is the ball must rest on the putting surface (the green) or in the hole Your thoughts

It’s not about the club, it’s about from where the shot is made. For statistical purposes, shots gained, etc., a shot isn’t counted as a putt if it is taken from off the putting surface. A lot of players think they are putting worse than they are because they include ‘putts’ from the fringe or fairway in their total for the round, but these shots should not be counted as putts. However, any shot taken from on the putting surface IS a putt, regardless of what club is used.
