I have not felt this down and out, since my all-time favorite, Hendrix, died back in Sept of 1970...there is a permanent scar in my emotional heart from losing Jimi....I guess there is now room for another scar, from losing the unique Jeff Beck. For me, it was Jimi and Jeff--and then the others, who were also exceptional, yet not on the level of those two giants.

Yes, Rick was stunned beyond words, It's touching and upsetting to see at the same time. Jeff's voice was (that word again...) so unique. There is no one who can do what he did, no one in the wings to take his place. It's a hole that will likely never be filled. I think that was was what Rick was struggling with. He might also have been stumbling over what gets me - that despite Jeff being 78(!), I feel that he was taken too soon.

His performances at Ronnie Scott’s were legendary. His mentoring of musicians like Tal Wilkenfeld or so many others was remarkable, and during the performance, his expression of enjoyment watching the youngest shine was priceless!

I always found Beck's guitar playing so unique, I had trouble describing it until I realized to me, listening to him, he didn't play across the guitar, from top to bottom. He played it from back to front. He pulled every note from out of his body, into the guitar, then gave form to the note with his hands, and then sent it straight out into our ears, into the world. No one else played like Jeff Beck.

Guitar Shop was up there. Give it a few listens. It gets better. I must admit though, that BbB took me on the very first play. There had been nothing like it - rock, jazz, funk and blues all at once with no vocals! I listed again recently and Diamond Dust really struck me. It sounded like a goodbye, but he did many of those over his career.

I started listening to Jeff Beck when I was as 6 or 7 years old. I was born in 1969. I didn’t even know what the name of his instrument was but I was hooked and hypnotized every time I put the needle on the record. My late father was an audiophile and high end audio businessman and of course music lover. So it was natural for me and my kid brother to have access to a lot of audio gears and music and 🎥 films. Upon hearing the sad 😞 news of his passing; I tried to digest this sad feeling by revisiting his albums and thanking my late dad for bringing such great music by great musicians to my ears 👂. Dearest Maestro Jeff Beck; your music is eternal and the ultimate source of inspiration for young musicians. Thank you 🙏🏼 for being born.✨💎🎸♾️🎶🌏

I was 6 years old in 1965 when I began hearing Yardbird songs on the radio. Even at that tender age I realized I was hearing sounds I never heard before. Thank you Rick and Tim for honouring Jeff. There is a generational connection with certain people in the music community that’s very personal to us all. It just feels like a community mourning one of their own. Especially those who grew up with Jeff and people like him who impacted our lives. We’re all at a loss for words. It seems everyone agrees that Jeff’s passing was so sudden and shocking. When I saw the sad news on a friend’s FB page, my first reaction was, “Oh, no! This can’t be true.” It’s shocking to me because he seemed so full of life. He was, as others have said, at the top of his game. Totally shaken to the core when I found out - Jeff seemed unstoppable; always at the top of his game. It seems unfathomable, unimaginable -that he could be gone. Jeff Beck was and is my only guitar hero for the past 42 years. Especially love the Yardbirds ‘65-66 Recordings (Shapes of Things, Heart Full of Soul, NYC Blues, OverUnderSidewaysDown etc) but also ALL of his records thru the years, Blow By Blow, Wired, There & Back, on up to the present-his instrumental versions of “Caroline No” & “Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder) and his solos on “Isolation” & “Scared for the Children”…so much melodic invention, emotion & soul coming from his head, heart & hands. I was born in 1971. Jeff Beck was a steady constant in my life. So grateful that he kept on playing all these decades. I loved he was doing his own thing, not just playing in one band only. He collaborated with so many musicians. I often think Hendrix would have been the same way, playing his whole life and with many people. Nobody sounds like Jeff Beck. I don't think anyone can. He was so incredibly ageless and healthy. He looks the same. Sounds the same. Hard to believe his time was up already. All I can say is that I'm thankful I saw him. It was only once but once was enough to burn into my mind his greatness. I was third row with Mike Keneally seated right in front of me. I felt blessed to be there. He ended with Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It was one of the high points of my life. I will cherish his memory forever.

Think about Woodstock: Jeff Beck turned-down the gig at the last minute, and who replaced him? Listen to Jimi's solo on All Along the Watchtower and tell me you do not hear Jeff - kindred souls taping to something larger than any of us. Maybe both of them would simply call it LOVE.

Quick story about the time I saw Jeff Beck: I saw Jeff’s show in Toronto a few months ago. It was my first time seeing him live and actually listening to his music (I’m 22 years old). What a treat it was for me hear his music for the first time live by the legend him self. I then grew to love his music after digging up his old stuff and I discovered a new style of guitar playing. After the show in Toronto, Jeff was nice enough to stop and take pictures with fans outside of his tour bus. It was crowded but he took the time to meet his fans. He was nice enough to sign mine and my moms ticket. As he got closer to me after singing the tickets my mom had, i put my right hand out and I proudly ask Jeff.. “Jeff can you transfer the tone to my hand”. Referencing the “tone is in the fingers” saying in the guitar world. Jeff smiled and proudly shook my hand. Being a guitar player my self that really had an impact on my guitar playing because it gave me a lot of inspiration to continue playing. I have a video of that moment when it happened and it’s beautiful I keep looking back at it for motivation to keep practicing. The sum up this comment. I just wanna say thank you to Jeff for the music he put out there that I discovered very late but it on time. He was a great person and great guitar player. May he Rest In Peace Fly on little wing 🕊

JB has been my favorite rock guitarist for a very long time. He's my "desert island" guitarist: the one I could happily listen to forever if that were the only artist I could listen to. And not only was he out there performing all through last year, he was still making new records that were good, different, and important. I am so glad I didn't miss too many chances to see him live. Thank you for your wonderful tribute. I don’t usually comment on social media about the passing of a celebrity but it was with great sadness that I learned that Jeff Beck died today. In the sixties some friends told me that I would really enjoy going to the Marquee Club to hear Eric Clapton and the Yardbirds. When I arrived at the club it was announced that Eric had left the Yardbirds and that Jeff had taken his place. After the initial disappointment I was thrilled to hear Jeff play and he soon won over a sceptical audience. Some weeks later I was at the Marquee club listening to another band and standing next to me was Jeff Beck. We chatted and he asked me if I had been there the previous week when Eric Clapton had joined them on stage. Unfortunately I hadn’t as my friend had an A level exam the following day. Jeff was unique and incredibly talented and no one played like him. He will be a great loss to the music world. My condolences to his family and friends and may he rest in peace. Thank you for the music.

Just heard the news. Jeff was my favorite guitarist from the British wave. Blow by Blow was so incredible to me I wore the vinyl out as a teenager. From then on I had to discover all his older material. Just great. We lost a human treasure. Rest in Peace, Jeff!

Guitarists tend to be a generic bunch with very few innovators, however, Jeff Beck was above and beyond. A really unique musician, encompassing rock, soul, fusion, jazz, funk and esoteric influences. His touch and control of his signature model, Fender Stratocaster, was truly astonishing. He was the only guitarist from the many highly lauded rock guitarists who I could remain enthused about and never tire of listening to see what he’d come up with next. He was always interesting, always different and often incredibly soulful; nuance and subtlety being his gift, and his gift alone on his more tender material with the way he would finesse every breath of emotion using his just his bare thumb and fingers. Out of all the musicians from his generation, none-one saw his untimely death coming. A devastating loss to the guitar community and world at large. R.I.P. 🥲🎶🎸

How devastating! Jeff was my guitar hero, I am 65 years old and I still listen to his music weekly. If you listen to his music you can’t help but love him and his music . There will never ever be another Jeff Beck. I will continue to listen to his music weekly as long as I live. I had the privilege of seeing him a few years ago and it was awesome and I was able to take my daughter with me. He will be dearly missed .

I've been playing for 28 years, and Jeff was one of my heroes. I am so grateful I got to see him play live. He is easily in my top 3 concerts of all time, and the most astounding guitarist I've ever had the privilege of seeing live. The tone he could draw out with only his two hands was astonishing. I've been playing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" all afternoon to sooth my soul. His rendition of that song always touches me deeply. Quite fortuitously I just found out about an hour ago that my sister is pregnant and I'm going to be an uncle. Now I'm going to lobby for my sister to name the baby "Beck". I feel like the stars and planets have aligned on this one. Every time a door closes, a new one opens. Maybe if everybody gives a thumbs-up to this comment we can collectively convince her to go with "Beck". Thank you Rick and Tim for this video and all the positivity you guys bring into our world. Growing up I was a Hendrix FANATIC(still am 52 years after Jimi’s passing). I also have always loved and revered Jimmy and Eric. But I have long said, especially since his transformation from the Yardbirds and Jeff Beck Group blues-based rock, to his mid-70’s instrumental guitar masterpieces, Blow By Blow, Wired, and There And Back, that Jeff transcended that 60’s rock God guitar hero to become the best MUSICIAN to come out of that era. He always was pushing the limits of electric guitar music, always exploring new sounds, forms, techniques, picking the greatest musicians in the world to play with, most a generation or two younger than he, who often had to step up their game to hang with the old dude. In that way, he was like the Miles Davis of rock guitar. Like Miles, once he established his bonafides, he could have taken the easy road, and just played his hits and standards, ending up on “smooth jazz” or “classic rock” tours, collecting a steady check from nostalgic fans who just want to remember the “good old days” But Jeff, like all great music creators, would never be satisfied just resting on his laurels for a check. Till the end, he was out on tour, trying to explore what it means to be a musician, not just an entertainer. I’m sure Miles is smiling, knowing he’ll now have another master chef to stir up that Bitches Brew of creativity. You will be greatly missed, Jeff Beck.

When he kicked off his solo on Stevie Wonder’s “Looking for Another Pure Love” on the album “Talking Book” after the first two-note phrase, Stevie literally laughs out loud cuz he just heard something special and, being a musical genius as well, he knew instantly his beautiful song was getting, what turned out to be one of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded. Beck continues and after a few more bars, Stevie says, matter-of-factly, “Do it, Jeff.”

He was the guitarist that was there all my life, from being a kid hearing him with the Yardbirds to now when I'm 60. The hole left by his passing is being felt by everyone who listened to him. Condolences and heart felt sadness for his family and anyone touched by his skill.

My day just went from OK to really awful, after just hearing that my musical hero Jeff Beck has died. I was dreading this day given his age but he seemed so healthy and playing just as amazing at age 78. Bacterial Meningitis apparently. The day I walked into this tiny record store and and heard this music playing, a real unique blend of rock, jazz, funk, blues, my musical world changed. I asked the clerk what record he was playing, he replied Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow. 1975. I bought it, brought it home, and listened the crap out of it. A perfect album. That solo in "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" is musical nirvana. I saw him play five or six times, the first time in the smelly gym of a high school in Plattsburgh for his There and Back tour (1980). I could not believe he was playing in this terrible (for acoustics) location! His know famous performance at Ronnie Scott's, with a who's who of musical luminaries in attendance, was an amazing live performance. I'm biased but he gets my vote for greatest electric guitarist ever. In terms of tone, feeling, technique, versatility, tastefulness, out and out weirdness at times, phrasing, he was unsurpassed. I'm feeling really bummed out right now and will be listening to Blow by Blow before I go to bed.

Jeff Beck was kind enough to accompany Tommy Bolin's body to be flown home after Tommy's untimely death due to 'misadventure'...if not foul play... after their previous show. He then honored Tommy by playing Billy Cobham's Stratus until the very end. That is a caring heart with an angel's hands and an electrifying delivery.

Amen...They were kindred spirits, Bolin and Beck. A lot of mutual respect, and influence on each other for a short time there in the mid-70s, prior to Tommy's tragic passing (as you described). They were definitely on parallel paths for a while there, looking for the same things to develop their own voices perhaps. And lucky enough for us, Beck lived long enough to realize the rewards of that quest, and unfortunately Tommy did not. But I'm certain that if he'd lived long enough to get past his addictions, we'd be celebrating his accomplishments and seeing him in a similar light as we do Beck. R.I.P., to both.

He cancelled the appearance--was sick when I had tickets to see him at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City IA in 74 or so...missed seeing Miles in Chicago the same way...I still wanted to see him and he was going to be in Nashville IN in Oct this year & I could have given myself the 70th birthday present of seeing Jeff Beck with my sons who have heard me play him for them their whole lives...so sad...

It's humbling for any of us that grew up with this music.... shocking for those few like JB, at his age never relenting, always creating and seemingly impervious to aging in his joints his hands, his speed, his technique always evolving and his desire to continue playing live and doing it with gusto like he was 20! That's the shock, like I thought I'll catch him next year on another kickass tour, I saw 4 different iterations beginning with The tour of JB and Hammer live which was basically BBB and Wired at the show I saw in Birmingham in a 3000 seat hall on the floor in folding metal chairs and everyone was so well behaved for 1976, incredible.

From the mid '60's until his passing, he had a long and prolific career. I'm 66 and I first heard his album "Beck-Ola" when I was 15 and his playing on "Rice Pudding" was just incredible. He inspired me to become a guitarist. Eventually I put aside my guitar and became a keyboard player and with the synth patches and toggle switch, I find myself trying to emulate his whammy bar playing. He was the best at what he did and his influence will be with me forever.
