I normally don't like when other artists try to "re-interpret" classic solos because it just comes across as the artist doing his own thing in the middle of a classic song. However, I've got to say that you guys killed it here, just like you did on the Stairway video! Every solo was excellent and really did meld Angus' style with each guitarist's soul. Incredibly hard to do, but you pulled it off flawlessly! Great job!
@xenixpro
@xenixpro 2 жыл бұрын
In my younger days, I would agree with you. I would try to play a song exactly, or as close as possible. But now, my thinking is covering a song exactly becomes boring. Where's the creativity to make that song fresh? Be creative while still preserving elements so an audience can recognize and still relate to the song. The other plus is to introduce younger audiences, that doesn't know or even care about the song, become interested and appreciate how music is fluid. One example is where I came across someone on KZbin turn Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" into sounding like heavy metal, keeping elements where it was still recognizable.
@Nghilifa
@Nghilifa 2 жыл бұрын
@@xenixpro I agree. Playing stuff exactly like the original (especially solos) makes it redundant.
@BanBanChi
@BanBanChi 2 жыл бұрын
@@Nghilifa It not only applies to solos. Take Simon Phillips' playing with Toto after Jeff Porcaro died. The essence of every song is there but it's unmistakably Simon. Same with Kenney Jones after Keith Moon died. I'm a drummer that plays some guitar. When "learning" drum parts I never tried to copy everything note by note. I always became a second drummer with the band or a third if Genesis or Allman Bros. When I learn a guitar part I learn the correct chords and structure but I play my own stamp on it. I'm not Alex Lifeson or Jimmy Page. I'm myself and can only play what comes out of my soul. The reason I loved this video is because it's their souls, not an imitation.

@@Raymaster7482 oh yeah for sure. Ricks is probably the least fitting to the song, the second one is original and (IMO) best fitting and the last is just the original solo shuffled around (on a fretless tho so not even mad). So by that metric the first is the worst of the lot. But the video premise aside, I think Rick's is the most unique and I just love the sound. There's something about it that I just love, outside the video premise I reckon it's the best, I just flows so well , it incorporates Rick and Angus's styles seamlessly and it isn't blocky like the others.

Wow, Bumblefoot's work is AMAZING! He intonated better on fretless guitar, than I do on a fretted one :-D

Right? You'd have to adjust every fret after every note lol. If someone's good on fretless he definitely sounds better than anyone on a fretted guitar 💯

Always interesting and always great! Idea: how about putting a solo into a song that doesn't feature one? Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers" or Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" (love to hear Phil X's take on that one!) for just two instances...

To me, re-imaging such a well known solo sounds like a huge challenge, because like Phil said, the original is so ingrained in your head! I mean, how do you improve on perfection? And yet, I really dug all these creative takes.
@threezysworld8089
@threezysworld8089 2 жыл бұрын
You're not really improving on it. What you're doing is trying to make something that sounds similar yet different. You do that by slightly tweaking a few variables in the playing and/or processing.

My God - Rick's solo was awesome!!! The we have Phil - so FUN and dripping in humour. Then Ron .. what the fark at the 7min mark - killing it - RBT-Injection! This was absolutely awesome. I can't believe I missed it in June!!! I really hope Angus sees this.

All three were great, unique in your guy's own sound but captured the "Angus DNA". 100% success!

Rick and Phil are great players, no doubt, but Bumblefoot just knocks it out of the park, as usual! 🤘 That slide-feel fits B in B so incredibly well 🙏

I've got to say, you and Phil are hilarious. But, this, as a older guitar player, is my favorite video I've seen. The idea sounds simple. But playing AC/DC, especially back in black, it's like instinct, a reflex action. Your brain muddies up what should be easy. Bravo gentleman, Bravo 👏👏👏👏

I feel like Angus is the Ringo of guitar. He serves the song pretty much perfectly, so it's hard for my brain to reconcile with that solo being anything other than what he plays. All 3 solos were really cool, but I think Bumblefoot's did the best job of evolving the original ideas.

Great Job, fun to watch. All solo’s expresses a great ‘homage’ to Angus. I’d like to see Rick ask Rhett Schull to cover a solo by Neal Schon (Journey).
