All the snares sound great! Since you use the Skyntone and calf heads for a darker sound, have you used the Fiberskyn Diplomat? Of course it does have two plys with the fiber top layer but in the Diplomat thickness it is nearly equivalent to an Ambassador in thickness and definitely produces a darker tone. I use that head on a COB Dynasonic (which I know you don’t care for) and also on an Acrolite getting what I consider a darker tone while tuned pretty high.

Hi Fred I have tried that head but I don't like the feel of a 2 ply head on a snare drum. I like them fine on toms (as in Pinstripes) but the response of a 2 ply feels like it fights back slightly with the tighter head of a snare. I am a big fan of coated or hazy Renaissance Diplomat heads for my concert snares when I don't use calf on them. I am not sure of the skyntone construction but that head feels really good to me, very close to calf.

@@rickdior Thanks for your reply. Interestingly enough, I haven't used the Renaissance Diplomat on a snare but do use them on toms to get a warm open tone. So many options....too few gigs.

Sounds amazing!! Quick question- when did you buy your C24? Those are so expensive now it’s crazy!! How much did you pay for it when you bought it if you don’t mind me asking?

I have had that mic for around 25 years now. It came out of an opera house in Austria. I can't remember what I paid for it but it was a fraction of what they go for now which is ridiculous.
