Great video! Im a trully Hermeto Pascoal fan, Hermeto is a one of a kind musician, the way he Mix rythms, harmonies and melodies is amazing, thats why Miles Davis call him "The Crazy Albino". I recomended listen to the album "Festa Dos Deuses". Thx Rick! Greetings from Chile!

It's nice to see Hermeto has some Chilean fans too. Greetings from the Frevo's and Maracatu's Capital (Pernambuco).

you have an amazing technique, thanks for your videos! Small comment on Maxixe: the bass drum traditionally never plays a "Baião"-figure, but always the 2 and the 2 + . Oscar Bolão is a great example of how to play Maxixe. Um abraço!

Hi Matthias Thanks for writing. I am not demonstrating the traditional rhythm, just the ones in my book. There are hybids of Maxixe played by many great drummers here in the states including Duduka da Fonseca , Ricky Sebastian and Portinho. The BD patterns are mixed as well as the ride and HH patterns. I grew up in NYC playing in many Brazilian Jazz groups and watching these guys. My book is based on the modern hybrid versions of these rhythms, not the absolute traditional versions.

@@rickdior I see - it sounds great anyway! When I studied in Rio, it was a very traditional school on how they play maxixe in gafiera- and choro-style. It was there when I got to learn that I should not mix up the Bass Drum patterns, but again: that´s the traditional view on things. Keep up your good work and amazing videos! Thanks once more.
