Trying to fund one of these basses at the moment. I agree completely on your opinion of signature models. I mainly play doom/sludge/stoner metal and it would honestly be my main bass for that. But it sounds great with any genre honestly. My whole thing with any piece of gear is how versatile I can make it. I'll use a 2nd gen sunn model T and a 6x12 for country and a 68 super reverb for drone metal if I want to 🤣
@timsarter5622

This really is a great bass. It would work really well (of course) for what you mainly play, but sounds great in other genres too. I recently recorded an album of mostly Western swing with it and it sounded GREAT!

Sweet!! I almost had one in a trade over this weekend but never got a response. So a 70s orange OR80 it is for now. I'll eventually get one though! Would love to hear that album as well!

@ Troy Walker, if you ever play with a pick I would remove the bridge pickup cover. Rickenbacker will send a free treble bezel if one or a pair is not included. You will not regret spending the money on the AC. Take care.

That's the Al Cisneros signature Bass. You should have played it in C Standard and have a fuzz pedal with it.

At first glance I was intrigued by the identical pickups in both positions, but then I saw that they are both moved closer to the bridge than a standard Rick has them. That’s not a positive for me. One of the best things about Ricks is that the “bridge” pickup sits closer to a middle position like on a P Bass. Makes the bridge pickup sound much better for my taste.

I also play it with flats but in Cstandard (cobalt flat) this bass has a killer sound when you play both pickups but the treble pickup with vintage push pull engaged and neck pick up volume a bit off. After 1.5 years I still don't know if I want to keep the two pick up covers or not!
@timsarter5622
@timsarter5622 3 жыл бұрын
The vintage push pull does very little for me. I always play with both pickups on full or both with bridge pickup rolled off slightly. I never keep pickup covers on as I like the tone best playing right over the pickups. That’s just me though - certainly no right or wrong.

@timsarter5622
@timsarter5622 2 жыл бұрын
The person I bought it from was a good luthier. He was easily able to cut me a new pickguard. I sent him a note to ask if I could give you his contact information. If he can’t do it I’m sure any decent luthier can cut you one. . Should be pretty cheap about 30 bucks. You’re not crazy about having the signature on it like me? Or do you simply want to preserve it?
@railroadtommyochoa

@shelton it’s a bit of a late reply , but if you haven’t found a pick guard for your 4003AC , I’ve made myself one in green pearl to go with fret markers and made then sold a couple on Reverb . Long story short , I have enough material to make one more if your interested. Thanks !

Thant’s how they made it. They wanted to bridge pick ups. It is a lot of routing for sure, but it doesn’t bother me at all and actually helps make the bass lighter. To my ear having a second pick up in the sweet spot really makes a difference.

First of all I got it for MUCH less than full retail. Secondly the pickup placement makes this different and in my opinion better sounding than a standard 4003. The signature means nothing to me, true, but I’ve never been excited by having anyone’s signature on an instrument. It’s the instrument I’m drown to not the signature or marketing

@@timsarter5622 -I’ve been playing Rick basses since the mid-70s, and my favorite sounds have been from a 4002, and a customised Laredo I had with the pickups moved to the same positions. I don’t have either bass anymore, unfortunately. I do have a walnut Cheyenne, which is somewhat similar looking to the AC model, and I love it! The oil finish feels fantastic. Great video, very nice to hear one of these being used with flatwounds, and without the extreme overdrive sound Al favors.👍

Hi, I’m primarily a guitar player, but have a mild obsession with sleep. Would you recommend this bass after owning it for a bit? Is it worth the 2900 out the door? Thanks in advance for your response. I was gonna pull the trigger this morning, but read all these threads in forums about folks having issues and what not with QC. Made me a bit nervous. I don’t really have an opportunity to try before I buy.

Hi I paid under 2k for mine but I got a crazy good deal. It’s the best production Ric I’ve owned. As for its worth it’s a hard call. I think originally they were a lot more than 2900 so that sounds like a decent deal. If you play it I’d say it’s worth it. It really is a lovely bass. I love the pick up placement on it and my ear sounds better than the standard pick up placement. So I’d say yes but it depends if you can afford it or not
