Ricky was a character, man. I'm 37, but I watch old matches like this for leisure. I'm an enormous fan of Ricky's work. He was far ahead of his time.

Pretty daring, really, humping that guy and playing with his inner thighs like that. Given the conservatism of the times, it's a little surprising this got by on TV.

Thanks for showing these black & white shows. I was born in 1945. In my opinion the wrestlers from these times are the best! Ricki Star is one of the athletes at the top.

That's a very big ring. Perfect for Starr's style.

I learned of Ricki Starr from "The Genius" Lanny Poffo... this is classic stuff. It's funny, and silly, but it works as it's a mental game against his opponents.
@joshuagaffney4582 жыл бұрын
Yes! I'm sure that Lanny probably landed a sokid amount of inspiration from Starr. Looking back, it makes sense. I'm a bit younger than probably anyone watching this, but from 1989-1991 when Lanny was working for McMahon, I was watching as a youth.

Starr was great 😆😂! Wouldn't it be hilariously entertaining to match Rude or Perfect against him with both wrestlers in their prime 🤔?

This has to be where Adrian Street got the idea for his schtick.
@MBM1117727 Жыл бұрын
Unlikely that Street was able to see this in Britain.
@actionsub7 ай бұрын
Starr left the US for Britain in 1963. According to Street, they had wrestled against each other a couple of times, so it's not hard to imagine Adrian incorporating some of Starr's shenanigans into his ring work.

Wasn't this in the Chicago Ampitheater for Fred Kohler? Commentator was Russ Davis if I recall correctly. Starr was a riot.

About0:58 you can see Ricki standing there and his six pack abs are showing through the body fur. He abs are vey obvious and easy to see.

This should be required viewing for today's fans who fuss about the "comedy wrestling" in AEW and indy promotions. The comedy wrestling of people like Orange Cassidy isn't new by any stretch.

There was an anecdote. Ricki (out of Kayfabe) flirted with a woman at the bar. Her BF saw this, got three of his buddies and decided to jump him. Ricki got roughed up, but he was the only left standing. His dad was a boxer and wrestler and he boxed for a bit but didn't see the point. Funny enough, one of his work out buddies who joined him on some ballet classes (Buddy Goldstein) said Ricki was actually a terrible dancer. But for 99% of the wrestling audience, they didn't know what was "bad ballet" which made it work.
