I am so glad I made 'The English Pennliner' roof windows that actually open, the difference it makes is amazing and for us here in England there's no need for A/C, great video again !

I love your windows. I wish I could change mine out but that is more trouble than I care to spend. I much rather be out camping. Though these days that isn't easy to do.

"Measure once and cut until it fits." At least I wasn't drinking my morning coffee when you said that. Great idea for protecting the A/C when not needed. Added benefit of weight savings when you don't need to take it during cooler outings. A couple of days ago, I left my garage door open overnight by mistake. By the end of the next day, I had a birds nest with eggs on the top of my electric tile cutter that I had on a shelf in a corner. Like you, I can't throw it out but now I have to leave the door open so the birds can get in and out.

Rick we just got back from the Aliner rally in Guilford Lake State Park in Ohio and it was a blast. Fortunately we won 1st prize for best camper and site with our expedition. Jill Pratt was our organizer for the rally and she has a Alite Aliner. What a small camper. She was was with the group that did the factory tour you went on a couple a years ago.

How cool !! How many campers / People attended. Hopefully no one was coughing or hacking badly! Ohio has some really nice state parks for camping. And they used to take the Passport America card, which means you get to stay for 1/2 price. I don't think they still do. But I have camped at several in the past!! Good to see someone is getting out and camping !!

I just finished pulling the ac unit out of our 2017 Expedition. The rivets were right where they were on your camper and I sliced them off with a putty knife no problem - didn't even notch the blade. I put in the panel just as you did but added weatherstripping around it and 2 sliding bolts inside to secure it. Our AC unit never worked and besides, we pretty much are always boondocking and don't have shore power. Once the air conditioners go on sale at home depot, I'm going to buy one and modify it as you've suggested so I can slide it in and out if we do a trip where we'll have power. This is a great video and as always, your modification videos are terrific! Next project is gas roof struts. Thank you!

My Aussie Aliner has the air con under the bed. It is covered in styrofoam, I guess to minimise the bumps? Maybe next time you replace it you could get that type if it is possible. That reminds me I need to do the video about my Aliner so you can see it. I have a bird video on my channel if you are interested in Aussie birds such as the Kookaburra and Magpie.

Wee Roll has solved this issue by installing a removable AC. The AC is only mounted in the trailer when it is being used and it is removed when traveling. When weather conditions make it likely the AC will not be needed it can be left at home. When traveling I would put the AC in a padded box to protect it and probably would put it in the back seat of my truck. I would also consider leaving it at home when going boon-docking since I would not be able to power it.

C-wrens do have brown-speckled white eggs, which you found in the wheel. They are notorious for building nests in strange and unsafe places (for them and their offspring). The adults have extremely loud songs. The vid shot showing the throat bladders inflating and deflating was cool; that's how their warbling can be so loud. I've already found one c-wren nest with 2 dead hatchlings this spring here in north Virginia; i had previously moved the nest b/c the mom bird built the nest UNDER a AC exterior fan cover. Perhaps the AC fan noise scared the mom, she was in the roofed nest for a while, then i discovered the dead hatchlings and no sign of her; don't know what happened. C-wrens hatch in 12-14 days...even if they hatch, they won't survive going on a road trip. You should consult a bird expert for advice on moving the nest...

Have you seen the new ECOFLO 2 A/C and battery. It has it's own DC battery power, can be recharged with AC, or DC such as a solar panel or DC from the vehicle. It also is a heat pump, so it acts like an electric heater. Plus it is portable, and since it has its own power supply and inverter it can be used to provide power for tools ect... Anyways I saw this on KZbin so it must be real. Great video, thanks again. John S.
@GoingNoWhereFast Жыл бұрын
Yes, I've seen it. Its really a very expensive fan with a little cooling compressor. It still has to have a hot air exhaust when its cooling, so it has to be installed with an exhaust "port/Window". Or it would really just be moving the hot to the back of the RV and cooling the front...lol. Also I would not believe it is really 5000btu. And for $1500-$2000 its a pretty big expense. Versus my $125 LG remote 6000btu A/C that I can take in and out as I please!!

Great idea of removing the AC. First thought I had when you said bungee the wood from the outside I thought why not fix a cross piece of wood from the inside, like the way they use to secure doors many years back (or a barn door) so you could just take the top off of the cabinet.. remove the cross brace and slide in the AC. Just a thought.
@GoingNoWhereFast4 жыл бұрын
I thought of that too originally. Then I though why not put a Eye bolt on the back and bungee it from inside and then I can remove it from the outside or inside. For the moment, what I did was very fast and sufficient. Still thinking about turning the board into a shelf.

I am still working on a rain deflector for the front part. The good thing is that is is inside on the inner board and so that will great er reduce any rain penetration, and it sits on the A/C drain pan, so if it runns down the boards, it should then drain out the A/C drain pan. We shall See.. Future Video !

We rarely camp in places where we need AC so I ought to do this just to remove ours altogether. Save some weight, and reduce drag from it sticking out. Of course even when we need the AC it doesn't work well. Too powerful for such a small camper so it cools the inside air too fast to remove humidity and you get that cold, sticky feeling
@GoingNoWhereFast4 жыл бұрын
I have on occasion blocked the fins on the outside to reduce the efficiency and lower the cold level. It stays running and does do a good job removing the humidity. BUt you can turn the little trailer into a meat locker if not careful! Thanks for the comment !
@dorvinion4 жыл бұрын
@@GoingNoWhereFast Now that I think about it, you need shore power to run the AC. I'd bet an electric space heater ought to do the trick to keep the AC running long enough to drop the humidity to a comfy level. Maybe add a timer so it will run for 5 or 10 minutes every hour.

What did i do with my trailer?I have an 1987 Jayco popup. This week took out my sawsall and chopped it up into pieces. leaving a flatbed trailer. Was depressing, not just finally giving up on the popup but how poorly it was made. Just paneling and a few braces with aluminum siding. Absolutely no insulation except some styrofoam in the roof (and no roof structure.) It is worth more as a utility trailer. Once the canvas is worn out, not worth repair especially with rotten wood from leaks. At least it had a plywood floor, not the chipboard or MDF like newer ones. So looking for a new camper. Probably fiberglass that wont leak :) Oh, the most valuable thing I found inside was a roll of toilet paper.

I had a 2000 Jayco Tent trailer from 2004 to 2007. Sold it and then discovered an Aliner in 2008 and still enjoy it immensely. The Aliner provides doable traveling compared to the complicated operation of a tent trailer that took many hours to set up camp each night while traveling. The Aliner is up in a flash!

My conclusion also, just slip it in-n-out when needed. Not worth the replacement of the A/C unit.
@GoingNoWhereFast Жыл бұрын
I like the idea of the "window unit", but like a Window unit it needs to be removable. The CoolCat models are junk and power hogs, A Mini Split might be nice, but take up a lot of room. And when the window unit isn't installed, you have a nice pass through that you could hang a shelf on.
