I had something not to dissimilar happen to myself with my handicap. I put in my 3 initial cards and was given an index of 28.2. My first comp I shot an 89 and my index dropped to get 13.7. We know that the WHS Index can fluctuate massively during your first 20 rounds and I think that clubs need to do what they can to make competitions fair i.e divisional prize splits or minimum handicap qualifying rounds before you can win

The cut to 6.6 will be correct. I bet the lad got his first handicap with 3 cards and 6.6 will be based on his score in the comp. I played with a high handicap member at Wetherby (135) who won with 48 points and also got cut significantly to 6.8. A few more cards submitted and and the same member is c12/13 which is more realistic. For me I think comps should be restricted to those that have submitted more than x number of cards.

There is also an Exceptinal Score Reduction in the WHS, which takes additional shots off you handicap based on how many under it you were. WHS Exceptional Score Reduction Rule extract: When a player submits a score differential of at least 7.0 strokes lower below their Handicap Index, they will be subject to an ESR adjustment. The adjustment ranges from -1 if the score differential is 7.0-9.9 strokes below the current Handicap Index, or -2 if the score differential is 10.0 strokes below the current handicap index.

Back 9 you only hit 4 fairways......plus had a duff and water.......horrible day for you, plus no putts really made........next time you i would just worry about hitting the fairways and i think everything else will fall into place....you cruised the first four holes where you hit the fairway......you are a good golfer, up that fairway % and the JCB will be at your mercy i reckon........Brilliant content tho, keep up the great work.

There is a exceptional score rule in WHO that if your score is 7.0 to 9.9 then you lose 1 shot on all your 8 counted scores and if you shot 10 below your handicap you loose an additional 2 shot on all you counted rounds towards you handicap, I only know because I shot 9 under my handicap In a 2 player team Stapleford comp and dropped 2 on my handicap. Great work as always Rick and Guy🍻

In middle age I went to the gym every day and walked 3-4 miles but still I couldn't really manage my weight...changing my diet to a modified keto, drop the carbs, but more importantly limiting my eating to a four hour window, usually 4-8pm and completely fasting one day a week from 8pm on a Wednesday until 10:00am on Friday has worked wonders in allowing me to both lose weight and keep it off...the initial stages of intermittent fasting can be difficult but drinking lots of water to keep your stomach full is the trick...after a while you will find you are not hungry in the 20 hours you don't eat. The daylong fast will reset your system. Eating three meals a day, morning, noon and evening is a myth that has helped contribute to obesity.

@peter2qg3 жыл бұрын
It seems fair to me. If you have fewer than 3 cards in, your index is your best handicap differential -2. So 11 over gives a handicap differential of 11×139/113=8.9-2 =6.9, so about what was said. Well done to the lad and his handicap will even out as time goes on and he gets more cards in. If less than 20 Qualifying Scores posted in the last 2 years 3 scores: lowest score -2 4 scores: lowest score -1 5 scores: lowest score 6 scores: average of lowest 2 scores -1 7 to 8 scores: average of lowest 2 scores 9 to 11 scores: average of lowest 3 scores 12 to 14 scores: average of lowest 4 scores 15 to 16 scores: average of lowest 5 scores 17 to 18 scores: average of lowest 6 scores 19 scores: average of lowest 7 scores 20 scores: average of lowest 8 scores

I can believe the cut via WHS. If he had for example only 5 cards in for handicap purposes it only uses the lowest 1 to calculate. Up to 8 cards an average of lowest 2 and so on until the full 20 are in for average of best 8. I put 3 cards in as a new member and got an index of 14.2. My 5th round I shot 77 gross (+6) and was docked to 6.2 because it only counted that as my best card

The danger of phones and the distractions they bring is that you are not present for those around you. Watching TV or a movie together is a shared experience, your phone is an isolating device, which is weird considering it is a communication device. Everything in moderation is cliche, but it is true; however, more important than that is being present for the friends and family around you.

6.6 can't be right!? His 95% playing handicap would be 36 with a par 73 and slope rating of 139. So he still shot an 18 over par 91. Even if that was his only round counting, and with a 2 shot ESR then it would come in around 16. My club uses a cap of 18 shots for major trophies to try and keep things fair. Some clubs require a player has 20 scores for comps to try and avoid massive discrepancies like this.
@j735662 жыл бұрын
Did he PLAY TO an 11 differential or SHOOT 11 over par? 11 over at a 139 slope course could easily be a low single digit differential; if he has a low number of posted rounds and if this is the only competition score that change makes perfect sense Edit: was mentioned he was a new member, might be new to the hcdp system too (only several rounds posted)
@j735662 жыл бұрын
To reply to my own post, as is mentioned, stableford is not played much in US, if he shot 18 shots better than his hdcp his hdcp is BS anyway and what difference does it make?
@simondewhurst32373 жыл бұрын
If the lad with the big handicap drop had only just got his handicap, 3/4 cards in, and had a best previous score of +33. His handicap would be based on this minus 2. After this stableford round, his handicap would still be based on his one best round but unless he shot a 7/8 over par, it seems strange that his handicap changed to 6.6.🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@andywalker31443 жыл бұрын
I am guessing with the handicap he only had 3 cards in, and his lowest was 33 handicap, so had 31 handicap. He then shot the good score, which would have been his only counting card with a shot taken off. So guessing the course rating was a few more than the 73, this would have been his only counting card and be low. So he played to 9 off par with course rating a bit higher giving the 6.6!
