Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This KZbin channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

Rick is his own worst enemy. The second he talks about what level he "should" play at for the round, or what score he "should" hit, it's going to be rough. I think he has another voice inside him who mocks him for being bold. Same thing happens when he plays with really good players.

I have noticed many times over my 60 years of playing golf that golf is certainly a hard game , even for a low handicap player like myself or a pro golfer like you Rick... I appreciate you having the guts to post the "not so good' shots and rounds that have gone all wrong... I really enjoyed your break 75 rounds earlier this year !! Thats usually my goal also from the senior tees (im 73)... i sometimes play with my son in law and his son and play from the Mens tees and had to sink a 10 footer on the 18th for a 79 last Saturday here in Green Bay Wisconsin (it was cold and windy) which for me was a bit like you playing that 7800 yard course in the cold , windy conditions,,, this summer , i had a 3 under 69 from the senior tees (5600 yards) which are about a 1000 yards shorter than the mens tees .. I have watched you, Matt, Pete and Carter since you all started out on youtube and its been a blast!! hope you all keep it up for years to come

True but usually under much better conditions here in America. I can't imagine playing in the Moist air of England on a Cold day when the Wind is against you on most of the holes. This is playing like 8500 yards the day Rick was there. Here in America the PGA Tour follows the Sun (usually) so the weather is usually fairly nice or even Hot when they play these long courses; makes a huge difference in the Ball Carry.

This is such a great lesson for me. You play well often on courses that give you a chance to recover. When you get to a difficult course you try and play smart but make some common mistakes. The mental game questions itself and you start sinking instead of staying optimistic and keeping to a plan regardless of final score. I really want to overcome this part of my game and play better on challenging courses. I know the first step is to enjoy the round above struggling to score.

Oh and obviously I'm throwing my hat in the ring for playing off the yellows ;)

Rick the hardest course I've ever seen ( on TV ) is where here in the States the Korn Ferry Tour plays its tour final, called Victoria National in the state of Indiana. I watch a lot of golf and have never ever seen a course so tough. On every hole there is no bailout left or right off the tee, on every approach to the green there is no bailout short, long, left, right, and on layups to any hole there is not bailout short, long, left or right. The old saying here " if this is the only course I could ever play again, then I'd find something else to do applies " . I watch the Korn Ferry tour final every year looking for bailouts I've missed, there are none, it's one hell of a tough course. Good video as usual.

When we're stressed a bit on the course, we start over swinging and then lose accuracy. Think this one has gotten Rick stressed a bit as he isn't his usual self. Love watching the LPGA. The women play within themselves, mostly never over swing and can score around par on courses that are often long (relatively the same as this one for women) require wood and rescue club approaches. Just drive in play, put your approach in good position, have a tidy short game. Rick let this course affect his swing and it cost him his usual good play.

Aye, reminds me of a fancy course I used to play called Greensboro National Golf Course. I traveled there just to see some of the shocking holes and gorgeous houses along side the course. There was this one a mate told me about, the house was 4 million dollars and completely golf themed with a statue of a golfer hitting a driver. Even better the statue was surrounded by smaller statues of 1 to 1 scaled replicas of golf sets. We guess the sets are what the owner has played the course with. Super cool course though. Id recommend even if it was a plane flight away. A truly shocking and long course at just under 7100 yards, 72 par, 73.8 rating, and a 142 slope rating. 11/10 Id recommend anybody to go there and play 18 any day.

Been waiting to see this video Rick - I was teeing off on the 1st just as you were finishing on the 18th. I played off the yellows, as most sensible people would (still 6,500 yards) and actually had a blob free round scoring 44 points off my club handicap (18.6 which round there gave me 23 shots!!!). I found the back 9 easier than the front, I hope you did as well!

"Fairway to hell." Love it. Reminds of a course I used to play when I lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. 8th hole, par 5, fairway c.25 yards wide, 612 total yards, with the back tee box being 100 yards behind the next one. And the trail to the back tee was dodgy (at best). Always the risk of turning an ankle. The only upside: the hole was mostly downhill. But only after you hit a 275+ drive.

Definitely a hard course. This one was designed very well & you can tell it will push every golfer to use a vast majority of their knowledge to keep the score within par's reach. Very enjoyable to watch!

I think you've done well, with the wind and the fact it's not summer so not getting the summer run it's playing at least 10% longer than normal. Nice work so far

I’ll give it up to you Rick. You keep a good attitude no matter how you’re hitting the golf ball. I’m trying to teach my 19 year old son that every shot will not be perfect but it’s a challenge to get him to listen. So he lets one shot that’s bad turn into mini sometimes.

Rick -- from Colorado USA really need a timely video on tips for ball striking and chipping on winter/dormant grass as its that time of year now. i shoot consistently in the mid to high 80s all season but when winter golf comes around i suffer from poor connection, fat shots and even shanks from the hard ground grabbing my club. Sure many others could benefit from a video like this as well.

Rick, I feel your pain. I used to play a course called the Ko’olau Golf club which I believe was ranked as hardest on the tour for a time in the 90s. Not terribly long, but absolutely brutal, cut into terraces in the spines of the Hawaiian mountains with ravines and elevation changes everywhere. You drive the cart across bridges reminiscent of Indiana Jones and have to hit a Roos said ravines onto tiny little greens. Great memories
