Rick, what a beautiful course. I love the links style courses! Also, because it rains there, unlike south Texas where I live, everything is green. Wander into the rough on my course and you are in cactus, black brush, cat claw, hardpan, etc. That said, some of the thick grass, scrubs and bushes you have there? Not fun either. Best of all, why I really like this course you are on, the views and no triple digit heat. I'm a relatively new subscriber, and love the channel. You are ALWAYS upbeat. Thanks for the nice journey.

You brought back lovely memories. Played it twice a week every Summer in the early eighties with my Uncle who was a member. The first few holes haven't changed but a few big differences around the middle. We used to have to hit over a wall. More bunkers now but still all so natural. Clear views of Scotland on a good day. P.S. Rick, please do a challenge where you play a round and never leave a single put short. It will help. Well played!🙂

Great again Rick. Very fortunate to be able to play here with a good friend who's a member. The 11th hole is such a difficult hole to play on a windy day (which is often!). Destroyed many a scorecard, even thought it's short for a Par 5. Great to see the new 17th now in play too. Your Northern Irish trip has been great viewing. Next time you're back, try some of the excellent parkland/heathland courses like Malone, Belvoir and Clandeboye. Thanks for the great videos.

1. Great video 2. Rounds like this are why I have the mini driver in the bag. Some days, I just need to put the driver in time out and give up ~25 yards off the tee to keep it in play. 3. My wedge shots go farther when it’s wet, even when I try to keep things as dry as possible. I’ve given up on trying to fight it, and just play them 5-10 shorter now. I put a x-flex, heavier 3W shaft in my mini driver to help with dispersion.

@billyp4923 ай бұрын
Yes,the driver certainly misbehaved and cost him a few shots with the lost and out of bounds balls off the tee but it was the terrible putting on the back 9 that killed his momentum and led to most of the dropped shots and ran up his score.He putted so well and so consistently on the front 9 and had a great front 9 score.had he made a few more of the putts that he missed on that first 9 he realistically had an opportunity to be 5 or 6 under thru 9.the bad drives and bad putting on the back 9 totally caused him to lose his momentum and confidence and had him and us thinking of what could have been...but, Rick still played a pretty solid round despite the struggles on the back 9 and was obviously disappointed with the way he was playing on that back 9 but never seemed to get demoralized and I think that was due to his caddie Flynn.i would actually love to see Rick play more golf with a caddie as I believe it would help his game and help improve his confidence and I hope that Rick walked away from this round with the confidence in knowing that his game appears to be improving and that front 9 definitely showed us and himself that he is most definitely capable of playing some very good golf.That first 9 was impressive and will hopefully be a confidence builder going forward.

Rick, your last putt was your best roll. Great front nine. The driver was not your friend on the back side, however, putting with the claw is the worst enemy as it takes out needed feel on all putts, so says a renowned expert on putting whose name begins with a ‘P’ told me at a lesson a few years back. I feel your driving will improve. The course looked amazing. Enjoyed the video.

I’m not second guessing you. You are a thousand times better than me….that is simply the way MY mind would have worked. Anyway, it was an exciting and entertaining round on a beautiful golf course. I’m heading from the US to Ireland and Scotland in six days. I won’t be playing golf but I WILL be doing some drinking while celebrating my 50th wedding anniversary. An extra 10 to 15 yards distance isn't better than being in play more often, never mind off the short stuff. Chasing distance when you're already able to knock it close to 300 yards with a forgiving driver straight is silly if you're spraying it everywhere with the club that 'can' get you the yards but is missing everywhere. But Rick knows this. No idea why he doesn't listen to his own advice on his review channel! Great golf, good to see you not vomiting all over your wedges!

As most pros keep telling us, you need to move on after bad shots and focus on the next one.... I think this is one of Rick's biggest weaknesses. And also focusing on the outcome like "needing birdie" here or "eagle there"... what is needed is always the next shot to be good.

What a beautiful course, built on top of rocks that are at least 250,000 years old... Flynn was spot on, doing exactly what a caddy should do. I have to wonder whether saying we could get blah blah under par is something that shouldn't be vocalised, the target is break 75, leave it at that, putting expectation out there only adds pressure, you never hear the pros saying I'm going to shoot 6 under today, they stick to their processes and the score is just something that happens as a result of good process. As for the driver, are bad shots not a result of a bad swing? Better club face control would result in better tee shots. Brilliant episode Rick, I'm really looking forward to seeing the next one. ✌🏼🕊️

Rick has an issue that no-one seems to notice or discuss, namely, he leaves too many putts short. In this video, 9 of his putts didn't reach the hole leaving himself short and not giving the putts at least a chance to drop in. 3 or 4 of those putts would have dropped if he got the ball to the hole. In *almost* every video he leaves half of his putts short, and it often costs him 3+ strokes per round. Unsurprisingly, the few times that he improves this stat, he breaks 75. As a comparison, watch how often the pros leave it short as a percentage - it's an anomaly. If Rick can get most putts to the hole, more will drop, and he'll break 75 much more often.
@samuelknott55863 ай бұрын
I always say if it’s not up it’s not in but the other advantage is if you knock it 2-4ft past the hole you see the line coming back.
@jackhilditch82413 ай бұрын
Few issues with this comment He’s mostly playing a new course these days, every time he plays, various in speeds and grass types will more often than not, lead to putts left short. Leaving putts short isn’t always a bad thing, the make percentage for pros outside 10 feet is around 40% and then from outside 15 feet is around 23%, so bare that mind in reference to the new course each time and different greens point. So yes leaving it short like he did on the third isn’t great but look how wet it was. Quite often in the uk the putting green has no pace similarity to the actual course. There’s a fair amount of putting gurus that will say getting past the whole is in some cases the worst of the two options from longer range. So yes he could improve on this but it’s not as simple as you’re making out. He gets a lot of stick and I don’t think this helps
@steveprichard87233 ай бұрын
He lost 6 shots hitting OB off the tee. That's the issue, right there. His short putts are solid and he probably hit under 36 putts so respectfully this isn't the issue

100% agree. He definitely needs to change his driver. I am rubbish with my driver, and one day I decided to go out and play my local course without it and using my driving iron instead.
