I think it would be different for everyone....but the best thing to do either to buy the irons in the first place, or after you have your set is to go to a professional fitter and do a gapping session. They can bend the loft a little to weaken or strengthen the loft to close down the gaps. Here taking a degree or 2 off the 5 iron - and some decisions about the bottom end of the set that will be affected by how long you hit the gap wedge...you can spend an hour or 2 and get this fully dialed in.

Did a fitting today went from eye 2 to g425 the difference is 10-(maybe15) yards in distance, higher spin rate higher launch.

I tried these out today at my local golf shop. I hit them next to Titleist T100S, T200, and Srixon jpx21’s I believe. The G425’s were so consistent and felt like butter. Surprisingly they were pretty workable. I generally hit a draw, but I could easily hit a fade when I tried. I think these are my next clubs but want to try the i210’s first.

Not sure how many shots hit with each to identify the gap. If a gap truly exists after an extensive test then this makes a case for having a session with a fitter who can look at the lie and loft of all the clubs and tweak them a bit to ensure proper gapping between clubs.

I love the revue but I will say I purchased these irons a week or so after swatching this video. I haven’t identified any drastic gaps between these irons at all. My PW I hit 140 & 150 on average for my 9I. Now yes there some instances where I pure either of those clubs and can hit the paw 150 or 9I 160. That’s with any club though, and these irons have been a saving grace. Absolutely love them hands down.

Got fitted just recently now that i have started working down from a very high handicap. Had a worn, used set of callaway x18 which worked well, but when we finally dialed these in, the difference for me was staggering. Only gained about 5-10meters average with the 7iron, but I halved the average left-right deviation. Really noticeable when you quickly shave off one stroke every two holes just from not getting those greenside bunkers and instead getting on the green or fringe. Cannot wait to keep working them as the season opens up here.

It's true that distance irons are inconsistant, compare it to a hybrid, which can normally go around 200 yards, but you sometimes get that occaisonal hot strike where it goes further than your 3 wood normally does. Same thing with a modern driving iron, can either go 180 or 240 sometimes. The effect of striking it perfectly pure in the middle of the face is amplified with all the face technology, that's my point here. As well as the CG weighting, which can either produce a normal flight, or a very high launching one if you hit closer to the middle of the face, making the distance inconsistant. That's why I actually prefer my vintage blades, launch angle more predictable, spin more at the same distance, more consistant smash factor, whereas GI irons launch higher and spin less, seen loads of tests done where the blades are more consistant. Since when did 7 irons have to go further than 140/160 yards anyway. While we're at it, Bring back the 50 degree pitching wedge, get rid of the AW and GW in the iron sets which are just a 9i and pw in disguise, bring back 2 irons, which nowadays are disguised as 3 irons (in players irons) and 4 irons (in distance irons). and stamp every iron with the degrees on the sole. Make the sand wedge in the set 55 degrees so you have a nice gap for the 60 degree. It's true that distance sells but it's just an illusion.

Great Video! Ping has always been making forgiving clubs. Seems Rick didnt need a super jacked up loft to hit 7 iron 180 yards. The lofts on these irons are only a bit stronger than cavity back irons 10 years ago..... 7 iron is always a favorite iron for everyone and they dont need to hit it 180 yards. I’ve enjoyed my Ping G irons since 2018. Last weekend, I had a fitter set up a 7 iron in a similar setting as my Ping G in a Ping 425. If I could sell my clubs for the used market retail and apply that for the always full retail price of Ping 425, I still would rather spend that difference on range balls and a new wedge or two. I saw no difference in the performance of the Ping 425 over my Ping G irons. The only way I could justify spending more on “new irons” is if I played a couple of weeks on a course I’m familiar with and see my shots improving. Other than that, buy new clubs is just that- buying a game.
