I went to Slovenia twice actually, the first time was back in 2009, and the second time in 2014 but I'm planning to go there again very soon, most surely this year. Greetings from Wisconsin! Good job on this video, Rick! One-half of my blood is Slovenian. Both of my grandparents on my mother's side were from Slovenia. My Grandfather was a Slovenian immigrant to the USA who worked as an iron ore miner in Northern Minnesota. My Grandmother was also a Slovenian immigrant who met him there in the little town of Gilbert,, Minnesota. They met there in Gilbert, married and had six children, one of whom was my beloved Mother. I solidly remember both my Slovenian Grandparents oh so well! And I loved the potice desert bread that my Grandmother made with a fondness that I have never been able to duplicate. The family later moved to Milwaukee were I was born in 1948. I hope to trace my roots in Slovenia some day. What a jewel of a country Slovenia is! This video brought me to tears thinking of what my ancestry left behind. Given what America has become today, I can only wonder, WHY?

My two visits to Slovenia were in April 2005 and February 2007, and I fell in love with the nation! I am eager to return soon. Rick did not cover Lake Bohinj in this programme. While Lake Bled is cute and romantic, Lake Bohinj is rugged and majestic and at the base of the Julian Alps. Worth visiting! In addition, Rick did not cover the eastern portion of Slovenia. I have visited Ptuj (pronounced like someone spitting tobacco: "Ptooey!") during their pre-Lent celebration Kurentevanje. Lots of fun watching wholly Kurents stroll from through town. Modest, walkable Ptuj has a fantastic castle containing five museums. Slovenian cuisine in the east has influence from its neighbor Hungary. You can catch a glimpse of Kurentevanje on "Rick Steves' European Easter".

There is a very special event in Ljubljana every December when the Gymnasium Kranz Symphony Orchestra, which is a youth orchestra of High School students and musical friends, presents a Christmas concert in the Gallas Hall. This orchestra is amazing, better than any equivalent youth orchestra anywhere in the world. Their musicianship is top notch. This proves that music education in Slovenia is as good as any larger countries can offer. These young people are great ambassadors for Slovenian youth. Slovenia is highly cultured and a beacon to the world.

Rick, I love your shows! Thank you for taking the time to visit my home - Slovenia. Too many people miss it but thanks to you many people get to see its beauties. There is one thing I would correct in this video... as others stated, Yugoslavia was not behind the "iron curtain". It was rather a non-aligned country. Yes, we did have socialism and a communist government but this does not automatically place a country behind the iron curtain. Unlike citizens of countries behind the iron curtain, Yugoslavs had passports and were able to travel abroad [as well as practice religion]. I was taught English in school, not Russian. We were, at least in Slovenia, pro West oriented. In any case, great show. Thank you! :-)

I never been into any of European countries but I absolutely like all "The Best of Europe", especially when I started as one of the subscribers of Rick Steve's KZbin channel; it seems like I'm already in Europe. I almost finish traveling the European countries... Thanks to Rick Steve 😊👍👏. Scotland, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy and among others are some of my favourite countries to visit at least once in a life time. ❤️ from the Philippines 🇵🇭. 👍👏😘
