No way is it peaceful with 1,5 million tourists each year, lol. In peak season the little village is flooded by as many people as you would find in a busy trainstation of a big city.

@mimamo

@@snakedelugerpg2042 It is a fact that about 1.5 million people visit the castle and nearby village annually. That would be about 4100 tourists a day. However, the stream of tourists is not equally distributed like that, because there are holidays, when everything is closed, and there are peak seasons, like in the summer, when more than double as much tourists visit the place. That means in peak season you have over 10.000 people descending upon that tiny village in a day. At those times it is as busy as a trainstation.

Was stationed in Munich 1959-1960. Spent a lot of time in the field during war games and training. Was alway fascinated with the clean countryside and clusters of medieval villages. Felt like I was on a different planet. Los Angeles, with brown, hazy skies and freeways seemed like a world apart from the charm of Bavaria and the Alping foothills.

Visited in 1982. Dollar was strong. Had a suite facing both castles one from the front and one from the side. They were lit up at night. We were served in the hotel from silver platters. I believe we paid around 35.00 a night.

I love Germany so much. Went there last year unsuspectingly of what I was going to find and leaved it astonished because the country combines some of the most beautiful natural landscapes I've ever seen with some of the most amazing architectural marvels in the world. I want to visit it again next year because honestly three weeks wasn't enough.

When I was in high school in the first half of 1990’s, I watched this tv program called Great Castles of Europe on TLC, which had more credible shows than what’s on now. One episode told of Neuschwanstein. I eventually went to the aforementioned castle a couple years ago and loved it.

Wow very interesting history behind this amazing place. I went there last year and only visited the Neuschwanstein, not the Hohenscwangau, it was so filled with tourists that is was barely impossible to walk around. I want to return someday, maybe on these days it would be much easier to go there because of the closed borders. Anyway, if anyone is interested, my latest video is a list of the most impressive castles I've seen so far in my 5 years that I've been leaving in Germany. It includes this castle of course, but many more! Cheers!

That one is a private palace, very beautiful but more recent. Neuswanschtein is some decades older, the difference this is a "royal" palace, and it is linked to the history of Bayern and his royal house. Ludwig III was a king that lived a fantasy tale...but the land was in peace and citizens were relatively happy. It is linked to national romanticism of the 19th century. Hearts Castle is a beautiful fancy, with mixed styles and zebras outdoors!!

I'm sorry but the claim that Germany was not deeply rooted in history is just laughable. Germany as a "nation" yes, but Germany as the German people have been deeply rooted into European history. A title of a nation doesn't mean much, what the people did is what truly shapes the nation.

Nasty little hit piece towards the end, saying that people complained about the expense, even though the expense was a personal one of Ludwigs, not a governmental one.
@jtzoltan
@jtzoltan 9 ай бұрын
Well I think Ludwig did accept some questionable terms for the kingdom during German unification, where Bismark/Prussia agreed to pay Ludwig's debts incurred from vanity building projects as part of the exchange for his acceptance of proposed terms for Bavaria to cede sovereignty to a unified Germany under Prussia... I don't know if those terms were objectively bad for the Bavarians in a way that we'd consider contemptable today, but it did weaken Bavaria's position.
@amochswohntet99
@amochswohntet99 9 ай бұрын
@@jtzoltan Bavaria became a vassal state to Prussia prior to the unification of Germany AND prior to Ludwig taking on those debts. Saying that Ludwig II sold out his country for vanity is simply incorrect and slanderous, and history will judge you harshly for it. The Bavarian treasury wasn’t burdened by the debts.
@jtzoltan
@jtzoltan 9 ай бұрын
@amochswohntet4434 history will judge me harshly for it? That's a bit overly dramatic. I could certainly be wrong though as this is something I'm trying to recall from watching something with a title like "Glory & Defeat: the Franco-Prussian War". Like I said, I'm not sure whether the terms would be considered "bad for Bavaria" from today's POV, but that Ludwig's personal debts made it straightforward to get him to accede to Prussia. Maybe it actually worked out well for the Bavarian lands and peoples as Germans plus having these prestigious/beautiful cultural achievements/monuments. I think it was great that Ludwig was a patron to Wagner for example and that added to the spirit and unity of Germany, though perhaps something of that was twisted and used by the National Socialists as well or was exploited by them in their bids for power. But in any case, what does it really mean for Bavaria to be "beholden" to Prussia prior to Ludwig taking on those debts and does being beholden in that way mean that Bavaria had less leverage over the terms of unification than it might have otherwise? Again what alternative terms might have been negotiated might make very little difference for history or what we'd think of it now.
@amochswohntet99
@amochswohntet99 9 ай бұрын

+MWcrazyhorse I would imagine so. At the end of the video, he said Tourists had been coming to see the place since the beginning of the 20th century. Tourism certainly is a powerful money machine. When you consider places like the Caribbean islands and so forth, the bulk of their revenue comes from tourism. Neuschwanstein alone probably brings a small fortune every year for Germany.
