I think they all have a fake laugh for those guests that aren't too funny or just to ease them in but Conan seems to have a genuine rapport with most his guests and let's them have their time (looking at Fallon). I'm a Brit

Aside from the fact that Gervais is hilarious, he truly enjoys good comedy himself even if it is his own roast. 4:11 is an example. Gervais: "I am never doing this show again." Ross: "I will hold you to that." Look at that laugh. For him, a good joke is a good joke, even if it is his own roast. Other examples are his interviews with Letterman.

It really isn't. It's poorly written, forced, overly sentimental, clichéd and often unfunny. Derek was similarly poor. These shows are nowhere near the league of The Office or Extras. Ricky's work quality and writing has significantly declined since parting ways with Stephen Merchant.
