Yup that's him Tysheen. He died on the last day of 1985. He had a great hit in the early 70's called Garden Party.

He passed away New years eve 1986 in a plane crash, his whole band died with him...He was 2nd to Elvis in the late 50s/early 60s....Your right, he was apparently painfully shy...

Backing Rick here are The Jordanaires, the same quartet that backed Elvis on his early 50's & 60's hits. --------------MJL, 76 y/o

Thanks Tysheen for bringing back old memories. You know he grew up on TV on the "Ozzie and Harriet Show". I watched him last week in "Rio Bravo" with John Wayne. He was a good actor too. I'm sure he was put in it just for the younger girls but he did good. He was a big teen idol and there are a ton of hit's. But I always think of "Garden Party". It was after the teen stuff was over and his type was out of fashion in the music biz. It's a great song even if he did drop some names.

Around the period where this video shows him with the longer hair. "But no one recognized me, I didn't look the same" - lyrics from Garden Party.

Neat stuff....Him and Elvis had the same guitar player. 'Hello Mary Lou' is probably his most famous song...

Well, not at the same time. Elvis got James Burton in 1969. Elvis used to watch Ozzie And Harriet (as I did) and liked the way James played guitar.

On the tv show Ozzie and Harriet Ricky, starting at age 17 had a five minute part at the end of each show in which he sang.

My favorite song from Ricky is a later song that was a Bob Dylan cover called She Belongs to Me. Great, great song!

Hi, late, but: It was even older, it was sung by Jo Stafford first. (In my opinion the best version) Cheers! 🙂

@@dichter331 Not sure what you're telling me. I don't see that Jo Stafford ever recorded She Belongs to Me. She did a song called You Belong to Me.

@@dichter331 Okay. I'm with you now. I was trying to figure out where you were coming from. And there you have it. Dylan did record Stafford's You Belong to Me. It's just not the song I was talking about. 🙂

The title threw me as I've always known this song as "Poor Little Fool" so I had to listen to see if it was some song I hadn't heard. :) Tysheen, Do you remember a boy band back in the 90's called "Nelson"? Those two boys (Gunnar & Matthew) are Ricky's sons.
