Ricky Nelson is probably one of the most underrated singers in American music history. He was the youngest singer ever to have a Number 1 album. From 1957 to 1962, Nelson had 30 Top-40 hits, more than any other artist except Presley and Pat Boone. His video of Travelin` Man is considered the first ever music video. He placed 53 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, and its predecessors, between 1957 and 1973, including "Poor Little Fool" in 1958, which was the first number 1 song on Billboard magazine's then-newly created Hot 100 chart. He recorded 19 additional Top 10 hits and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on January 21, 1987. Nelson is widely credited as a forerunner of the California-based country-rock scene of the 1970s. Ricky/Rick sold in excess of 500 million albums, and even today he is ranked the 4th biggest singles seller of all time. The Nelson family (Ricks Father Ozzie Nelson, rock legend Rick Nelson, and Ricks twin sons Matthew & Gunnar) are in the Guinness Book of World Records as the ONLY family in Entertainment with 3 successive generations of #1 hitmakers.

I saw Ricky Nelson playing in some mom-and-pop restaurant with alcohol type place. He was with his Stone Canyon Band. Must have been in the early 80s. I had always thought of him as a teen idol on the level of Fabian. I was blown away. Still as handsome as ever, of course, but he just put on a great show from his wonderful catalog.

Ricky Nelson "Lonesome Town" is a very sad song. Timeless. "Travelin Man" and "Hello Mary Lou, Goodbye Heart" are two more catchy tunes he sang as a teenage idol. He tells a good story of his life in the song "Garden Party" -- "Yoko brought her walrus, there was magic in the air" -- great company, great message too I suppose.

Glad you are doing more of Ricky Nelson's songs. He had so many hits such as "I'm Walkin'", "A Teenager's Romance", "You're My One & Only Love", "Be-Bop Baby", "Believe What You Say", "I Got A Feeling", "Hello Mary Lou", "It's Late", "Stood Up", "Waitin' In School", "Just A Little Too Much", "Travelin' Man", "Young World", "Lonesome Town" "Never Be Anyone Else But You", "Sweeter Than You", "It's Up To You", "Teen Age Idol" & "Garden Party". Sadly Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1985 at the age of 45.

@@corinnepmorrison1854 They got it from the old man, apparently young women all loved the Oz, he didn't try, he just had "it". Those family sitcoms from the 50s got a very bad rap for no good reason with people saying they were unrealistic. I knew Leave It to Beaver was closer to my childhood than anything I had ever seen and after just seeing Ozzie and Harriet about ten years ago it was a good show as well. They were a very talented family and if you look at the credits the whole family was involved (Ozzie's brothers and their kids)

The song that teaches what goes around, comes around. I loved Ricky Nelson, had a school girl crush on him in my early teens, bought his singles, but by the mid 60’s he got a pretty much washed away by the British Invasion. I never bought an album, kind of ventured off into Beatles, Rolling Stones, & the like, Heart, Tina, ONJ, Queen, but always loved him, that beautiful face, & voice, & remember the New Year’s we lost him in a plane crash, think ‘83, still a young man. It was heartbreaking.

❤️ 🥰❤️ Hello S & M SQUAD, HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!! ☃️❄️🎄⭐️ I never really paid much attention to Ricky Nelson, mainly because he was popular a decade behind me. He was on a TV show with his goody-two-shoe parents, called “THE ADVENTURES OF OZZIE & HARRIET,” along with their two sons, Ricky and David Nelson.⭐️ When I was bored, I used to watch reruns, until something more exciting came on, like Batman, or Gillian’s Island!!! 😉😂😂🤣🤣🤪🤪 ⭐️ Ricky did come out with a song in the early 70’s called “GARDEN PARTY.” I did enjoy that.particular one, perhaps, you cool play it? Just a suggestion! ⭐️ ⭐️💘 I Hope you have a fantastic THURSDAY, and that your day is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! ⭐️ I truly appreciate your kindness and joy, during every reaction as well as your positivity!!! This is the very first song I played in public, (it's very easy to play you see). So I have very fond memories of it. The place was in Singapore where I learned to play in local bands. 50 years later I went back to Singapore got up in a club, told the audience ''My first performance was in this town and this is the song I played'' and played it again. I still play it. :) I'm British and currently live in Prague. I think Ricky Nelson had a portrait in the attic.

Gee Ricky, what a great song to sing to get all the girls to feel sorry for you, [not that it would take much], and then you can have all the girls paying attention to you, hahahahaha. when I was a little boy, every week Rick would be on Tv acting in hos parents sitcom, and singing a song at the end at least every other episode or so. That's where I learned how to sing and phrase. Rick and hos parents and brother helped bring rock and roll into America's living room. Beautiful voice, understated, excellent phrasing, but when the moment came where he would cut loose...that was special: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYTWimSsbJKVqs0

I was only in elementary school when the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet was on TV, but even at that age I recognized that Ricky was a heartthrob with the girls even though I didn’t quite understood those things then. For Rick Nelson of TV fame [ The Ozzie & Harriet Show ] , this song WAS his biggest of his career, going platinum that same year, 1958. THE most fascinating thing about this song ???? Rick Nelson didn't want to do it---------thought it was dumb------ indeed, he had to be ORDERED to record it. And even with The Jordanaires backing him [ the 4 guys who backed Elvis on his 50's & early 60's hits ] & even with THE KING of " Rock-A-Billy Guitar", James Burton , Nelson STILL didn't want to do it ! When it became a monster hit, no one was more shocked than he was ! True story-------MJL, 75 y/o

Nelson started out on the 1950s TV sitcom starring his real life parents, Ozzie and Harriet (which the show was titled.) As with Shelley Fabares performing with her TV parents in the audience on the Donna Reed Show, Ricky performed on Ozzie and Harriet with his real parents in the audience. I was born in 1956 but since my teens have been a fan of 50s and 60s-era music. And I watched a lot of sitcom reruns (some not aired in a long time) in the 1980s and 90s. I think Ozzie and Harriet is being rerun on MeTV or some cable channel like that.)
