The safety man made ONE mistake. Should've capped off that statement with: "No I don't sign your paycheck, however I do talk with the people who do and it wouldn't be difficult for me to convince them that replacing you would be cheaper than OSHA fines and/or lawsuits."

it's funny because many companies are wising up and buying off OSHA employees or simply getting lawyers to fight the fines because the fines are more expensive than the legal fees (usually), and still fire the employee on top of that if they were a higher-paid one for a fresh one. Has happened to me and a lot of people at an RV manufacturer I worked for. Got an injury and want to see a doctor? Write an incident report explaining how it was YOUR (the employee's) fault you got injured even though you followed EVERY safety regulation on the site so we don't have to send you to a doctor. Can't go to OSHA for that cause the documentation will say different. Honestly just quit before something bad happens and find a better company because you don't want to be made to feel like you were responsible especially if it's REALLY fucking bad.
@Cheesus-Sliced
@Cheesus-Sliced 2 жыл бұрын
@@Rikkity a lot of that paperwork is purely to scare people, it doesn't actually have any legal sway. In my experience at the moment (in australia) most companies are recognising that its very quickly becoming cheaper to just up their prices to clients, and do things properly every time, avoid fines and incidents because those cause lost time, which loses contracts faster than increased prices (if you still do a good job, anyway).

I hadn't even had the chance to explain that I had just hired in. You know what else bankrupts companies? OSHA fines for not providing basic ppe, especially if it contributed to injuries. The skit is funny as always, but kidding aside, there are two types of companies, the ones where Tommy wins this argument, and the ones where the safety guy does. You want to work for that one. Yeah PPE can be a nuisance sometimes but I'd rather work for a company pushing it, than one withholding it. I can honestly say where I work, Tommy wouldn't have gotten two or three sentences into his argument before safety man left, and department head (who does determine if Tommy gets paid) showed up to bid him farewell. Edit: Ricky has driven safety man to a therapist 🤣!

So true!! I’ve worked for both types and run my own company now. My truck alway has PPE for everyone on site with lots of extras ( no boots ) I’ve got probably 8 spare hard hats that have never been touched, it’s cheaper for me to provide it. The law here requires you to pay the employee for the remainder of the day if they injure themselves at work. My lowest paid helper makes $20 per hour, one pair of eye pro cost $2, PPE is my cheapest overhead by far. Safety is still 3rd but everyone has to go home basically how they showed up.

When Roscoe vs. Tool Room Tommy comes around I see it going something like this: Roscoe walks in with Western shoot out music playing; we hear the clinking of spurs as he does. Tommy stand up taller, straightens his shoulders and then they stare at each other. After about 10 seconds Roscoe says, "we doing this again, whippersnapper?" Tommy replies, "everytime, old man" Silent staring for 20 seconds Then they both look around and Ricky and The Safety Man hightail it out of the Tool Room. When it is just them two left in the room. They laugh and both pull out a flask and spend the rest of the day shit talking everybody else. Boss man comes in eventually and at that moment *only* sees a proper exchange of goods and says to both, "see I don't know why it is so darn hard for the rest of them to just do the job right, y'all take an extra 5 to relax or something. In fact. Lunch is on me today. Tommy go ahead and lock up the Tool Room and hop in the truck." ...2 hours later... Then I had another incident in which my shift leader and group leader also had to make the clerk give me 3 brooms and 3 dust pans. "All you're going to do is lose them, plus how many people on your team are actually going to use them" his exact words. My bosses were not happy at all because we literally had an audit coming up and we're required to have cleaning utensils at every station. @@fangorn23 idk what the case is but like in our plant, production management and material management(who aren't on the same team badically, they're more or less independent entities) absolutely hate eachother. Production's opinion is "whatever expense you have so long as it's justified, well pay it, just get it done. If you need it to do your job, we'll get it for you" and material is the complete opposite. Production management is always screaming at material management about us in production not getting the things we need to actually run the line. Whether it be gloves, replacement tools, or even just the parts that we assemble on our product. I have a gun on my team that will occasionally break its bits and the animosity between material and production rears its ugly head. It's so bad to the point where our shift supervisor(so this is someone fairly high on the corporate ladder) had to go back to the store personally and pull some management override nonsense to simply get us those replacement bits because they won't give them to us. Our shift supervisor literally has to keep a zip lock bag full of 10mm bits in his cabinet under lock and key because of how annoying the store clerks are about that kind of thing.

Damned I know I didn’t work the phone lines for long, but these videos are always on point. The alternative scenario is when you put in the order for replacement PPE and the company just straight doesn’t send it. They will pull every excuse not to give you anything, but they will leave the order open and just say they can’t work you in. I was supposed to have prescription safety glasses but the company wouldn’t schedule for me to see their optometrist to get the process started. Luckily I had just done my yearly check up and I handed my supervisor my signed prescription and he put in the order himself. Had to dip out about six months ago cause some jack wagon rear ended my van at a stop light and the company said I should have done something to prevent the accident despite not being at fault according to the law. And about a month ago one of my buddies called me to let me know my safety glasses had come in and they had sent about 20 pairs that no one can use cause they’re all set to my prescription. So it took them over a year to get my shit shipped in, and I don’t even work there anymore. Corporate is somethin’.

I get what i want or i dont work on the clock.

I had a situation with a tool room guy like this he didn't want to give me a pair of gloves because I didn't have the old pair to give him. The thing was I had only been at that job for 3 days and when I started I had my own gloves; I was not about to give him gloves that I bought and paid for in exchange for gloves that they were legally supposed to provide for me. When I told him he could have my gloves for $15.75 and a new pair he threatened to get me fired. When my boss who is also the person that got me the job to begin with got to the tool room he thoroughly chewed that toolman's ass up one side and down the other and by the end of the week I was running the tool room.

I feel lucky to work for a company who legitimately seems to care for my safety. I was in a company run training course out of state and when asked why I wasn't wearing my safety glasses, I said it was because they were a bit old and cloudy so it was hard to see through them. Guy reaches into his pocket and hands me two brand new pairs. "They're like a dollar man, your eyes cost way more" and walks off. Thanks, Safety Dave

Somehow I knew the safety man was going to have to give up his own glasses. It was the only way it was going to end. He really needs to speak to the higher ups about that. Also, he could have pointed out that it costs the company more if someone can not work, and even more if they get injured. If someone gets injured it may be the quickest way to close down the business too.

Our tool room guy got fired for giving out non rated hard hats because they got raises based on the amount they save the company when they make the purchase orders at the end of the year if they find cheaper alternatives through different accredited companies.. this dude got his manager to approve the hard hats by faking the certs on the paperwork they give for approval.. some guy got his head split open when a rock fell off a bucket and boopsd hin on his nugget.. they looked at the helmet for workers comp reasons because the osha is there just for that shit but the dude sued the company and ended up winning from the shit.. was a whole big thing, had a mid day meeting with all personnel.. was horrible, all those fuckers in one doublewide mid day.. could have at least done it first thing one day..

Well, well, well, Safety Man , there's a robotic vending machine accessed via employee PIN that makes your position obsolete, and holds irresponsible workers accountable for losing gear. They put one in at the foundry but everyone immediately forgot the PIN, and had to get an office worker with a key anyway.

I worked at a tank and vessel place before. You had to show your old gloves, glasses, etc. Sanding discs and such all had to be recorded on daily Expendables log and labeled with job number to charge proper job. Grinding discs. Wire. Gas. One guy got fed up and recorded bandaids, aspirins, and water and cups. Ear plugs were at the time clock. They wanted you to keep a pair a few days but everyone used them once. Dust masks, you had cheap ones for most applications. The good ones had a a little breathing port and better nose contact. They really didn't like handing those out. Paint markers and soap stones another hot item. The big sanding pads were cut down for the 4 inch grinders. So the tool room tommy is everywhere.

I used to do this. My title was Tool Issue Room Custodian. I was certainly a dictator, especially when it came to extension cords. The room's only door was one of those doors that was split in two, so the top had a lock and the bottom had a lock so the top could open to give out tools. Adjusted the locks one day and put the top lock on the outside and kept the bottom one inside, so if you're walking there it would look like the room is locked and I'm gone. Nope. Was in there half naked taking naps. Slept 4 hours straight one night. No work got done. Didn't even get fired. Good naps.

Love it. I used to operate a tool room in a welding shop. Been a safety officer too. I'd never turn down anyone seeking PPE, as long as they had a good reason for it. You need cheaters, readers, shaders? A vest, a hood, a hard hat, a jacket? I got your back. But why do you need another? Something happen you're not disclosing? So I get Tommy's side, at least a little bit, but it wasn't for a budget side, even though that's a great point. I just wanted my coworkers to be safe, and if mistakes happened it needs to be reported. So I can relate and very funny
